Stop, Block & Tell!

Bullying is one of the most difficult parts of growing up EVERYONE experiences. But no matter who targets you, don’t be a victim. Instead, stand up for yourself and step out of the situation. Use these tips from StopCyberBullying.org to help.

- Put everything behind password protected walls, where only friends can see you.
- Protect your password and make sure you really know who someone is before you allow them onto your buddy or friend list.
- Blur or morph your photos a bit so they can’t be abused by cyberbullies or predators.

ATTENTION PARENTS! Protect Your Child From Cyber Bullies

An estimated 62% of teens report their parents know little or nothing about their Web activities and 71% of parents stop monitoring their child’s use of the Internet after they turn 14, but cyber bullying doesn’t stop when your child gets into high school. Use these tips from TeenAngels.org to protect your child.

- Talk to your kids – ask questions (and then confirm to make sure they are telling you the truth.)
- Ask to see their profile page (for the first time)…tomorrow! (It gives them a chance to remove everything that isn’t appropriate or safe, and it becomes a way to teach them what not to post instead of being a gotcha moment. Think of it as the loud announcement before walking downstairs to a teen party you’re hosting.)

The Megan Pledge

After Megan Meier took her own life due to cyber bullying, StopCyberBullying.org said enough is enough! This pledge was created in her honor to remind us all what is at stake.

By taking this pledge:
- I agree to take a stand against cyber bullying.
- I agree not to use technology as a weapon to hurt others.
- I agree to think before I click.
- I agree to think about the person on the other side.
- I agree not to join in cyber bullying tactics or be used by cyber bullies to hurt others.
- I agree to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
