Donating really is an amazing gift. I have such respect for those who chose to be donors. My nephew will be two years old next week and has been waiting for a heart transplant for nearly 6 months. My sister and nephew have been out of state waiting while my brother-in-law and their 3 other children wait at home. We pray everyday both for my nephew to receive the gift of the perfect heart and for the family who will choose to donate it.

Donating any organ is an amazing gift. I can tell you this by personal experience. My father has been on dialysis for 7 years now and while you can live the rest of your life with dialysis, it is a painful and tiresome experience. It is an amazing gift to save even one person's life, so I believe the subject should be brought up more and brought to the attention of everybody.

Also, Illinois residents need to RE-REGISTER after Jan. 1, 2006 (when Illinois became the 43rd state to initiate a first-person consent registry, eliminating the need for additional consent) to ensure their wishes to be a donor are honored.
