Ask A Top Model

Hillary Clinton Are you counting down the days until the 10th cycle of America’s Next Top Model debuts? Do you know the name of every girl and details of each challenge? What would you ask the former competitors if you had the chance to find out what really happened behind the scenes?

Hello, Ms. Tyra Banks. I am an aspiring something, once I figure it out. When I was a little girl, I had it all together watching many models as they grew. When you came along I was really inspired. I now have three beautiful babies and am in college. I am having a very hard time trying to figure out what I am good at, other than my true hopes, of what I prepared for. I guess what I am trying to say is how do you transform to something more practical for the time being, than rather your dream? Or do you not?

hi tyra my name is kayla and im only 12 years old so may youy please do top modeluntil cycle26 because i really want to be on the sho thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Tyra,
I have a friend who has a fifteen year old daughter I love and want all the best for.
She wants to be a model and has had some modeling classes and some ad work in the last couple of years. She watches your Top Model show and thinks a lot of you.
The last two years her grades have slipped and she is failing this year. Her mother has her hands full caring for two younger twins, attending college, keeping house and trying to make her understand she needs a good education and should not rely fully on her modeling hopes for her future.
I cann't help but feel if she were to hear the same message from you she might listen and beleive.
I know you are a busy person and have little time to personlly respond to everyones requests, however I am very concerned that this child is headed in the wrong life direction and needs help. Her two older siblings both had problems as teens and are still struggeling to grow up.
I am hoping you will help us reach this one and set her once more on the right track for a happy future.
Thank you so for any consideration you may give to helping. Love your work,
Rita

Dear Tyra,

First of all I love your show. I think you should start a antm for teens like 14-18. That way teens could get the same expirence as older girls. And maybe it should be during the summer so no one misses school days.

What do you think since im a aspiring model I think it would be a good idea

Dear Tyra,
Goodday to you,I have been watching your show lately and i'm every interested. As a child i alway wanted to be a model, but i never have the right contact. Going to small agent did nothing for me, but take my picture and charge me a arm and a leg. since you have open the door for all young woman i am glad and i would like to be apart of your show.

Sincerely
Kadian

Dear Ms. Banks,

I need your advice. I have a twelve year old daughter who is 12 going on thirteen. We were recently in the local mall and was approached by a model rep from Model Inc. Well I was not very happy they got my daughter all excited that she would be perfect for modeling tall and skinny. Please help I don't want to discourage my daughter but I also do not want her to go to a interview and all it ends up being is a scam. Please advise what I should do in this situation. Thanks for your time and advise.

Hi Tyra,

First of all, I just want to say I think you are beautiful woman inside and out. I am 5'2", I weigh 90 lbs, I am a size 0. I love modelling but due to my height, I cannot seem to get anywhere in the modelling industry. I am 24 years old & I've wanted this since I was 17. Is there any way I would have a chance at applying for America's Next Top Model? This is my dream & I know if anyone can help me it would be you! I watch both of your shows and enjoy every minute of them. I tape them if I'm not home. It would be wonderful if you can email me your reply.

Dear Tyra,

I am a seventh grade teacher in South Carolina and I have a student who has a strong desire to be in the fashion world. She is a beautiful young lady who would make a fabulous model. But she has an interest in designing. I was wondering if you could offer some inspirational words or advice to my student. She has a very sad story. Her mother has passed and her father is not very involved in her life. I think you could offer this young child a new future with just a few words. I am helping her to research how to get into the industry. But I think she needs a role model to strive to be like. We would both love to hear from you.

Thank you,
Mrs. Connelly

yeah tyra i hate your new judge shes a bitchhh
you should get twiggy back

ok hey tyra I'm a 17 year old who atands at only 4 ft. 11 in. I have a passion for modeling, I love taking pictures but my friends always put me down for being too short for modeling. They say that the worse things they say wounldn't comapare to what the real world would say to me. I know the standard height for modeling is 5 ft. 7 in. but I really want to model. But if i we're to make it as a model then I think I would stand out because of my height difference. Eva was a short model and she inspired my dreams even more. please tyra help me out with something.

hello tyra, i was writing
to get more information about becoming a contestant on americas next top model. Is there any possible way that you can help me in that field? I'm a young lady that comes from a less fortunate familly. You really inspire me and i always had the dream to become a model. They say life is what you make it and dont be afraid, well i finally overcame my fears. people critize and talk down on me, but i just want to say that anything is possible and you wont get far unless you try. Watching your show not only let me see how strong you are, but how much you've gained from the industry.

hey tyra this is jennifer martin again. in case you dnt remember, im 17 with a 15 month old son. i absolutley love ur show. its the greatest show in the world! i watch it every wednesday at 8 on the cw. and if i miss it will be soooooooo pissed off cuz it means so much 2 me.i dream about being on ur show and people ask me wat i wana b wen i grow up i say a famous supermodel like tyra banks and they laugh at me like yea right. and they say i could never do it but i believe they r just hating cuz that dont get me down i just be like "watch me" cuz imma doit on ur show! If i ever get the oppurtunity i would show u my appreciation by doing my absolute best and correcting my mistakes.cuz if i get eliminated i would just burst into tears and b like "why?"i dont like how people get on the show and they play around and dont take it seriously or they be in the bottom 2 and get another chance and dont correct their mistakes or like that girl this cycle who got on the show out of all them girls and was like she dont kno nuthin bout modeling and u were like "u wanna jus go home?" and she was like yea. Iwas so pissed off at her i jus wanted to punch her in her throat! im llike is u serious? or like marvita wen they were telling her wat to do during the photo shoot and shes laughing and stuff. i would have corrected it rite then and there. the only one i dont like thiscycle is fatima bc she talks about everyone and she thinks shes all that and shes like "oh i seen so and so practicing and she looked so pitiful" im like u aint all that! and how she said marvita was to ghetto and hood and she plays too much. at first i was mad cuz i liked marvita but it was true she acted like she didnt care. i really think i could be americas next top model bc i have alot of personality and im funny and i think i can walk good im a size 3 and i really have wat it takes and i wouldnt be in the house getting into it with other girls bc u aint there to make friends u kno tyra? u there to WIN and i would keep that mentality the whole time so when ur ready 4 next cycle and ur going thru them girls PLEASE remember me i PROMISE u will not b disappointed thanx bye

Hey Tyra!

I have been your biggest fan all my life and almost cried when you took your last walk down the Victoria's Secret runway. My biggest dream is to become a model, but unfortunately i have yet to find a promising opportunity. I thought becoming a pageant girl would help guide me along but that's not exactly what I want to do. My passion is to walk a runway. I have even invested money into a modeling agency that did nothing but take my money. I am now 20 years old and would love to be on ANTM. However, I am not 5'7". I could be wrong, but i just don't think it's fair that "short" girls, like myself, cannot receive an equal opportunity to have her dream come true. I mean, we buy clothes too, right? And someone has to design the clothes right? So we should be able to model clothes made for us, just as skinny (or smaller) girls model clothes made for them. If big girls are trying to make a difference in the modeling industry, then I want to try to make a difference also by representing girls who are not 5'7". If I am not the one to make a change, then I would like to see other short girls with the same dream as mine to take a stand.

dear tyra,
i just want to start off by saying that you and your achievements in life have made me such a stronger person.im a 17 year old girl from dayton ohio who is looking to become very successful in the future.now that i am in my junior year in highschool, things are getting to be very tough for me especially with my peers.most of the females in my school are ghetto and stuck up and i just feel like i dont fit in.sometimes i just hate going to school because theres always so much drama between everybody(since the school is mostly black) and i just feel like a total outkast.so what should i do?i dont know ,but im glad that ther are inspirations like you who prove that you can achieve anything in life.i kmow that i can cause you did.i want to thank yuo so much tyra, and i hope that i am as beautiful of a person as you are when i reach your age.thank you

hey tyra i really love your show it is so inspiring, keep on doin the good work

Hi tyra my name is icee johnson and i'm 17 years old i want to be on ANTM when i turn 18 but the requirments says you have to be 5'7 and im 5'6 and a half and i think its not fair that just because im a half an inch off that it ruins my chances of being on the show

Hi Tyra,
My name is Sharquish im 16 years old and lately I have been looking for a modeling agency to go through. Well just recently I landed an interview at John Casablancas Modeling agency and they told me that before they could officially say whether they wanted me or not I had to pay 3000 dollars. And so I was just wondering do you think it would be a good idea to pay that amount of money.

Sincerely,
Sharquish

Hello Tyra,
My name is Angel and I am writing for some help with my legs. I am a 48 year old woman who suffers from a condition called Epiderma Nodosom. (this condition is a side effect from another condition called Crohn's Disease) Epiderma Nodosom causes small to large bruises on my legs, thighs, and arms. Because I am African American, the bruises and scars are purple to dark brown in color which, someone pointed it out, that I looked like I just got beat up. Also, I can not wear dresses above my ankles, because of the mean things people say and look. Some of the bruises have also keloid, so there are raised bruises on my arma and legs as well.

I really have come to an understanding that this is something I cannot change put I would like to wear capri pants and/or dresses mid-calf again. Could you give me some ideas as to what I can do to make wearing dresses more fun again? (it gets hot in North Carolina in the summer)
Lot of Thanks

Thanks ahead of time for your time and thoughfulness.

Hey,
I love how you did a show with a bikini on and tolds us to love our bodies. I am 5'11 and a size 12. I am a bigger girl, and I want to break into the plus size modeling. I have the confidence and drive to succeed. The problem is I dont know where to start. I would love some pointers. Thank you tyra for being there for us women, we need more of you!

hey tyra
can there be a junior antm? because i love the show and i learn stuff.

Hello Tyra,
I see on the comments already posted there are a lot of questions about auditioning for top model ...but I was wondering what are the requirments and how would I go about applying for the show. I would also love to know some hints on how to get jobs and such. I am a newer model and I would really appreciate it. :) thank you so much for answering my questions and giving me info on the show.
-Rebecca
