Hi Ty Ty,
I want to start off by saying that I have looked up to you my entire life!!! I wish words could express to you how much " I SPEAK YOUR NAME!"(Oprah's Legend Ball). You're my legend. But I just have some things on my chest that i want to share with only you. Im a senior in college. Thank God! And i know now more than ever that i dont want to use my degree, i want to pursue my dream of being a model. Ive allowed my family to guide me toward being a doctor but im not happy. And i have a new life motto "Only you have to live with the decisions that you allow everyone else to make for you." So im going to pursue my dream of modeling. Im 22 years old and i feel so old. Its such a sad day when you feel old at 22. I say all the time my biological clock is ticking. Everyone thinks i mean with having kids but i mean with modeling. and im curvy, not too curvy because im a size 5 and i can fit some 4s. but i know that i need to lose more weight or at least lose a little booty. but the worst part of it all is that im only 5'7". It hurts so much to know that something i have no control over, something that God gave me, can stop me from living my dream. I want to model so bad. This is all i want to do with my life, well as a career. I have goals that go past modeling. I love fashion, i subscribe to all the magazines to learn more about the industry. With the shortage or lack there of, of black models just makes my dreams seem further and further out of my grasp. Im going to get my degree in december, hopefully, i only say hopefully because its so hard to study for all these test and go to all these science classes when its not in your heart. I dont have any motivation to do it. i know that i will never use this in my life again. i just feel so lost and confised sometimes. but i do know that after grauation im movng to new york or la, to pursue modeling and my all of my dreams because its a little hard to do from as small city in Florida. Do you have any advice for me or anything. I LOVE YOU AND I SPEAK YOUR NAME!!!!
HEART

Sorry for being here again but just do this for me. Go to Google and put in 'dark skinned women' under exact phrase and hit google search. Just read the stuff that is there.
Bye for good this time.

Shamica...God girl. I just read over your last entry again and you are SOOO off the subject! Nobody is even talking about ANTM as you call it. I'm really hoping you are a young teen.
Posted by: Joni | October 5, 2007 10:02 PM
First let me thank all of you for correcting my spelling of "hypocrite".
For you Shamica...you have missed the point all together. And NO!...I dont look at ANTM because all that crap they do and go through is ignorant, as are most reality shows. I do however look at The Tyra Show because she often has interesting topics, as do Ellen, Oprah and others. Am I a Tyra fanatic...NO.
For smartass Athena, the only morons here are the ones so far up Tyra's butt that they cant see the forest for the trees. Of course you are all for everybody being biracial or multicultural, idiot...because you are!
Again for those who dont or cant understand...my issue is that society, apparently Tyra and everyone else, feels that in order for a black person to be beautiful, he/she must be mixed with something else. Which REALLY means he/she is not REALLY black. Society is who says they are black because of the "one drop" rule. If you dont know what that is, ask someone. Society is so accepting of these "beautiful" people because they are so close to WHITE. Not white race but white skin!! Thats for you who will say Kimora and Chanel Iman, etc have no white in them.
YES, I have issue with every one talking about all these BEAUTIFUL BLACK PEOPLE when apparently it is the white or japanese or korean or something else that is making them so beautiful. LOOK at the TV, videos, magazines. There are sooo many beautiful black people. Now notice how close to white (or for the sake of other races) light they are. Sometimes I have to really stare at these people to figure out whether they are white or black or what!
Charnele Brown (Kimberly Reese/Different World), Tichina Arnold (Pam/Martin Show), Keshia Knight Pulliam (Rudy/Cosby Show). These are all beautiful black women. Bet most people cant say they even know who they are. Not so much because they were before your time, but DARK women just aint what theyre looking for. Dark men, on the other hand have a chance because when they are dark I guess they look more manly or scary or something.
Anyway, lets end this because I could go on forever. I have faced it...the house niggas always had it better than the field niggas, and without it being said, they still do.
You cant see IT because your ARE IT!

@ Carly
How is Tyra a hypocrite because she cares about her own race? That is a very uneducated comment. About 99% of humans care about their own race.
Second of all, ANTM is a competition. She can't choose all black models. If she did then yall would be saying TYRA IS DISCRIMINATING against other races...she only puts black people on ANTM. People say that now about BET.
Also, Tyra is not the ONLY judge on ANTM. There is a panel. She is not the only person who makes decisions for that show. DUH!! You do watch it right?
And there are alot of black girls on ANTM especcially on this season. Black girls (Eva, Danielle) have won their season. Tocarra is successfull and she is from ANTM and so is Yaya. I dont even know any white or hispanic models who didnt win their season but are still susccessful.
I am black so let me put that out there. But no matter what, people will never be satisfied.
Tyra, keep doing ya thing girl. You are helping out alot of people.

Wow. I missed the show today because I was at work. I only catch it sometimes but it seems like today's show made some people heated. I agree with some of the comments and some of the comments I dont agree with. I wish I could have caught the show today. Maybe I will catch the rerun at like 3am in about two weeks. Then I will know why everyone is so upset.

I enjoyed the discussion on the lack of black models on the runway. There was an article that was posted on Yahoo! from a news source that said there was a lack of diverse models on runways in general. So, maybe for the next show, there could be a discussion on the lack of models of all colors.
And, when talking about race, I find it interesting how some of the bi/multi-racial models identify themselves with a certain group and not all groups. I believe Naomi, Tyson Beckford, Kimora, Chanel Iman and so on are Asian as well. So I think that would be a good show topic about identification with different races.

I just thought of something, Tyra. All of the people who like to scrutinize every little thing that you say and do and then call you a hypocrite and tell you all the things that they feel you are doing wrong sure watch ANTM and your talk show a whole lot. Hmmmmm.....here is an idea morons, if you don't like it then don't watch. What a crazy concept for you fools to grasp.
Posted by: Athena | October 5, 2007 3:46 PM
Hey Tyra!
I enjoyed your show about the lack of diversity in the modeling industry, but this comment is for the ignorant people who are posting negative comments towards you. It is not Tyra's job to be the representative of black people in America. If you want respect from people you have to get it on your own merit and on your own terms. Stop dragging down every successful black person to your uneducated levels by expecting them to show the public how a black person is supposed to be. If you are unhappy with the way people perceive black people then look to yourselves. Tyra, I am bi-racial (black and white) and I enjoy your show and I don't feel that it is geared towards white people. It is geared towards young women of all backgrounds and ethnicities. Don't let these fools bring you down. The main flaw in the black community is that they have an us versus them mentality and must bring up the race issue every time a black person is making a name for themselves because they obviously have issues with their blackness. You people need to get off of Tyra's back and worry about your own lives.
Posted by: Athena | October 5, 2007 3:19 PM
I agree with all the people on said Tyra can be a hyprocrit sometimes and all she is caring about is her own race! Hello Tyra??? There are asians, latinas and other different races! What about them dissapearing on the runways??
You say they have dissapeared??? Look at TOP MODEL and your talk show you have African American models on there all the time!!You have tons of black models. Don't try to deny it.then why don't you choose more black models to be on top model??? You said you wanted to open a door for them?...
I am soo disspointed in you... You were soo immature when you were like Me and my mom can have a slumber party in the Lincolin Bedroom with you and your wife.
All of your shows on race are soo dissapointing and you totally contradict yourself all the time.
Does anyone else feel the same??

hi, tyra,
I love your talk show and alwys keeping in real.
Its great you are talking about how there is lack of diversity in modeling industry, however, i think the reason is that there are not many african american models or any other diversity in modeling world is because in today's world, everyone wants to rich and famous quickly in this fast rapid world and don't think that it takes lot of hard work and patience to be a model or supermodel.
i think there is big lack of asian models especially Indian models, I have never seen any Indian models on the runway in NYC and I don't think Ashiwarya Rai is good role mdoel to become a supermodel.
the way is India and Bollywood is going to becoming western I don't think young girls and boys in India are going have any role models to follow in foot steps of.
This is why I want to want become a mdoel and inspire Asian girls that they can do anything they want. i want to become a model but have no idea where to start because the process is kind of diffcult, as living in jersey i can go to NYC for open casting calls, but how can i figure it out the they are legal.I tried the bbb.com, but sometimes it doesn't work. Is Model Look Magazine real? I know you get thousands of comments and email to help. But please tell how can i start. Thank you for being a role model and inspiring thousands of young girls around the world to be become a better person.

I have been hesitant to post a comment on this wall because I do not want what is said to be in vain. Tyra has said she does read the message boards every now and then; hopefully this will be one of those times...
Every time Tyra does a show on racism I am intrigued and excited and feel like finally these issues of race will be shown from a fresh perspective and attempt to get to the root of the problem. However, each time that I watch shows like this I am disappointed. None of these shows, whether it is Tyra's or other popular figures, get to the bottom of racism especially within the African-American/African community.
Joni is so right. The black standard of beauty is primarily based on bi-racial beauty. That is as far as society is willing to accept black beauty. There are so many issues that are never talked about when it comes to black beauty and the media and I think it is a shame. America is in denial and if we as a society feel that negative views of black beauty are dead, then we are dead wrong. Maybe the problems aren't addressed because people feel that the reality is too real and that there is nothing that can be done to change the perceptions of standards of beauty in relation to blacks.
Still hoping that one day we get real and get to the real issues at hand when it comes to this subject because it has more than just issues of skin tone.

pls i would like to commend the 3 young girls & thier mother that came on the show [bloggin black on i hate homosexuals].it's encouraging to know dat some people are still bold, couragous & christian-like in America.

I wont even address this to Tyra because I dont think she even reads these.
At first I was agreeing whole heartedly with "bebe" but then she started going off about Tyra being ghetto and a disgrace to African-Americans. I feel that she can be whatever she wants to be, in jest.
But apparently Tyra wants to be a hippocrite, and I'm gonna make this short and to the point. On Thursday she talked about the absence of black models. Well truth is her whole show has an absence of black people. When she did the "2 high priced vs discount beauty products"I didnt see ONE black person. When Kimora was on there with her lil fashion show I didnt see one black person. I saw one who "may have been" black.
But think about it...black aint beautiful...(yeah, I said aint)'cause even the black girls in fashion, commercials, videos, TV, movies, magazines, and anywhere else that the subject is beauty, the white women are white and the black women are damn near white! Bi-racial is the in thaang. Everything beautiful is bi-racial these days! Kimora, Chanel Iman, Halle, Alicia Keys, Amerie, Keisha Cole, Boris Kodjoe, Mya, Cassie, Victoria Rowell, Evan Ross, Tracy Ellis Ross, Persia White, Paula Patton...oh hell, I could go on forever.
Lets face it, even the brown paper bag rule dont apply no more. If youre darker than off white you have no talent and are good for nothing!
But lovin' and kissin' up on a bunch of white folk made Oprah a billionare...it can work for you too, Tyra!

Hi Tyra, I love your shows. I think you are doin amazing things for young women today. I'm a black woman. I'm really dark. Everyone tells me my skin is beautiful. But I don't see it that way. But I want to know if there is another line of products that I can use that's not as expensive? I want to keep my skin looking great
Posted by: Traci | October 4, 2007 8:43 PM
tyra,
i have followed your career
from day one!!i thought you were so inspirational and a role model for african american women.i remember for the first day your talk show aired, i hosted a small dinner party while we watched the show. We were shocked and amazed with your guest, staff, audience, as well as your topics? We expected to see multicultural and diversity......there was none???Majority was white!!
Your first guest, you gave a makeover was white? Unfortunately, its been that way everysince.Ive been saying i was going to email you and express my concerns, i just never got around to it. Your shows continue to be geared towards caucasion people. Just take the time to look at your audience. There's very little color.I(black, indian, asian, latino etc.)There are so many colors in a rainbow, that's why we're called A MELTING POT!
Caucasions aren't the only ones who need jobs, makeovers, wishes granted and health/fashion tips!!!!
Today's show was the last straw.....BLACK MODELS?????You should be asking your self that question?Look at ANTM? A hand full of black models?Majority WHITE!!!!When you give fashion shows, on The Tyra Show?
Again....majority, if not all, all are white!!!
You even picked a white Tyra drag queen, in a contest?
I think you're a fake, phony and fraud!!!Did you forget what it was like to be black?I bet you remembered, when those pix were taking of you Americans Next Top Waddle? It wasnt the covers of black mags(jet,ebony,essence,etc?)No...because you know that's not fat for our culture. The way you speak and carry yourself while hosting your show is a disgrace to african americans all over the world!!!!speaking in slang, GHETTO!!!! You never know who could be watching your show, that has never seen a black person before?this is how you represent us? as a whole?Let them think we're all STEP N FETCHA NEGROS??Unzipping your pants? Asking Janet Jackson about farting?Sen.Obama if you and yo mama can have a slumber party in The Lincoln Bedroom?HELLO......
Your true viewers, friends and family members need to keep it real with you. Start mixing it up,putting the colors of the rainbow on your stage,in your audience and on your payroll.Have multi-cultural and diversed subjects and topics.(When you address skin and haircare, you know as well as anyone that all races have totally different textures,so why would you only have whites on your stage?But.....then again your ratings are shooting through the roof?that's what the main goal is any way?Well.....thank god they moved you to NewYork! By the way... there's asian, indians, african americans, latinos etc.in NewYork Too!!!!!!Maybe you can find some.
Last but not least,i don't want to be viewed as being prejudice, because im not!!!I have every color race for friends, family, neighbors as well as coworkers.Im african american, my son is half mexican and my grandson is half white.
HOW'S THAT FOR A MELTING POT?????

Hi Tyra,
I absolutely loved the topic for today's show and I also love your show. Being a dark skin woman myself it was a wonderful treat to see two beautiful dark skin women on your show as well as the gorgeous model Chanel Iman. I love Alek Wek a lot and it was refreshing to see her on your show showcasing her line of bags. I think you have a vibrant personality and a fresh allure. I have been a fan of yours since junior high and I'm now in college! It is amazing how you've managed to be bold and beautiful for this long. Keep doing what you do best.

Hey Tyra,
I'm Jio, a big, big fan of yours and of your shows. By the way, I'm a Filipino guy from the Philippines who enjoys watching your show especially when you tackle about controversial issues such as racism.
I love the fact that you're very open and strong about your opinion on how racism is getting worse now in so many aspects and fields of profession.
I would just like to share this issue with you and to the people who would read this in the future. Just last night as I was watching the news, this issue came up about a line that was aired in the season premier of Desperate Housewives. It was Teri Hatcher's character, Susan, said "OK, before we go any further, can I check these diplomas? Just to make sure they aren't, like, from some med school in the Philippines?" when she had this check up with a doctor consulting bout this certain change in her (menopause). I'm not saying that this one is meant to hurt or insult any body but something like this, even if it is meant to be a joke or a punchline or whatever, could seriously damage someone's credibility as well as their dignity. This issue just came out like an explotion here in the Philippines and in the entire Filipino community in the world.
I just hope that as much as we Filipinos do respect other nationalities, most especially the Americans, we'll have the same amount of respect too. There's a lot of Filipino professionals in the world whom we're very proud of that works abroad away from their families just to make good money to send back home. Such a sad thing that our skills and professionalism is being questioned when all we try to do is work hard for money like anybody else.
Just wanna make a statement that hey, we are great, no matter what negativity is being thrown to us, we would still remain smiling coz that's how we deal with problems.
Posted by: Jio | October 4, 2007 5:11 PM
I just want to say congrats on exposing such strong and controversial topic...although I felt it was safely done...Im sure it got people talking...Cause we all know it is there "FEAR OF A BLACK PLANET"...that is why we are not seen for our power and beauty...just you alone is a strong example of that...Model turn actress..turn TV mogul.. these positive images are always frown upon when it comes to the black race...If women of color are exposed to this...on a day to day bases we would truly be a force to be recon with...cause we already are...we just don’t know our own beauty...even the kitchen too... Tyra.... If it was up to them they would love to see us on TV rolling our necks robbing and stealing...or behind a jail cell to perpetuate the stereo type...and keep us at a level that is below them....When they take black models off the run way... it affects the world and every young black future doctor, scientist, lawyer, and future president...might sound dramatic but its the circle of life...And being once a young black girl…. now a women I know the affects of nature vs nurture...and now I’m a successful Black fashion designer that works in the industry and I know first hand how the color and class line are drawn..so blatantly...when I enter into a job interview, work place or even a fashion event....So its great that you are taking a stance and exposing this....Luckly, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Alec Wek...and she is truly a beautiful women...Thanks Tyra…..and people need to know that there is enough to go around…
