MESSAGE FROM TYRA: Who wants a makeover?!

Hi y'all,

It's finally getting cold here in New York. For a while the weather was pretty much the same as in Los Angeles, but now I'm finally wearing my winter coat and turning the heat on in my apartment. I'm LOVING life in NYC. I just step out my front door and there are people everywhere - even late at night. I went to the grocery store at 11pm the other night and the sidewalk was as crowded as it is during the daytime. People are running errands, the restaurants are packed and the city is alive. One thing I see a lot of in NYC, is working women. I see them in the morning, walking, heading to the subway, jumping on the bus, dropping their kids off - looking all cute, walking with a sense of pride and purpose.

Women who work in the city come from all over. There are five boroughs in Manhattan (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island). I decided I wanted to do a special makeover show that would honor the women of all five boroughs and reward their hard work with some personal pampering, hot styling and fierce hair and makeup! I picked five women to make over, I even surprised some of them by showing up in a garbage truck, looking like a sanitation worker. They NEVER saw that coming!

It's really incredible when women who put everyone else BEFORE themselves are given love and attention. These ladies were so deserving and their makeovers are really INCREDIBLE. You'd never recognize them seeing their before and afters. They look like new women - and it really comes from their inner transformation.

Check out the NYC Working Women Makeover show THIS FRIDAY, November 9th!!! I've got some great style tips YOU can use at home too. And if you get a chance, take some time to put YOURSELF at the top of your TO DO LIST. You deserve it!

Love,
Tyra

PS...here are some behind-the-scenes photos we took during the makeovers!

I would love a makeover, I have gotten fat from being on steroids having asthma and tearing my achilles tendon several times dotors solution are always weight gain meds and I would love a makeover and to lose 90 pounds to look like myself again. I had long hair but it is now very short s well. I am currently orking on my MBA in Business Admin and HR. I currently have three college degrees and am a diorced parent. I do know that employers discrimate agains weight, and never knew how much until I gained weight and how people view you differently. Thank you kindly.

As the primary backer of HD DVD, Toshiba spent a lot of money developing technology that they didn't get a lot of use out of. Some features from HD DVD players, like upscaling, fit nicely into standard DVD players. Others, like web-enabled content, aren't quite as applicable. Sure you could put the same capabilities into a DVD player, but with no official standard you'd be hard pressed to get anyone to take advantage of it.

Dear Tyra:

I am writing to your for for what can only be described as a generous act of kindness. I work in a residence for severely mentally ill formerly homeless adults. Unfortunately, even as celebrities disclose their own bouts with mental illness and the media has begun to focus attention on depression, bipolar illness and schizophrenia, this population is severely underrepresented. The stigma of mental illness is great and my clients experience it daily. They have been in and out of shelters, shuffled from relative to relative and repeatedly institutionalized. Finally, they have come to live here, at Georgia’s Place, a decidedly unique residence located in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, NY. Georgia’s Place has a very intimate, open feel. Home to 39 formerly homeless, mentally ill adults and 10 low income adults, Georgia’s Place is a haven for those that have struggled through addiction, crime, incarceration, abuse, etc. The list is endless. My colleagues and I would love to give the women here something they could never afford themselves on fixed incomes. We would love to make them beautiful. I know you probably receive many requests, but these women are special. It would mean so much to them to meet you. Please say you'll consider helping us.

My name is Brianna I am 15 years old and I'm writing to you about my grandma
She's an amazing woman but has had a very hard life.
Quite a few years ago she was hit by a dump truck which caused her major life issues, and she almost died. She is always in pain, she won't let anyone take her picture because her teeth are all rotten/broken off and she sometimes can barely walk.
Money is a tough issue for her she has been on disability for a long time. I know a lot of people laugh when someone my age writes something, but it's hard to see such a loving, giving, and caring person feel so down all the time yet still continues to do so much for everyone else.
We've tried so many places to help her get her teeth fixed but no luck. If you cant help could someone please help me with some information to be able to get her help with a makeover and maybe her teeth fixed so that she's not ashamed to smile, and so one day I can have my picture taken with my grandma :(

Hi Tyra,

I have a girlfriend that I have been friends with all of my life. We went to elementary school together and though life has taken us on different paths, we have managed to stay in touch and in one another's life.

Here's the deal: Girlfriend has no idea that she dresses funny and is clueless about skincare and makeup. We are both 50 years old and my buddy dresses like her 25 year old daughter... it's a mess!

Tyra, I believe that if she were shown how lovely she could be, it would make all the difference in the world.

I want you to select her for a makeover without disclosing how tacky I think she dresses. (That's cold, isn't it?)

Thanks,
Victoria

Dear Tyra,
I am tired of my mom complaing of how ugly she feels. She is beautiful and hard working. She is always helping others and the elderly. I think my mom deserves a make over. i lived with my dad until hurricane Katrina my dad passed away the next september, and she dropped everything she had going in Utah to move here so i could finish school with my friends. She just finished nursing school and deserves this more than anyone. Please do this for her.
Thank You so much,
Staci, 18.

Dear Tyra, I really hope that you read this. Lately I think that I am going through depression. I have a great husband and kids but I just fill crazy. I dont want anyone to see me. I dont like to leave the house or answer the phone. I tell my kids to say that I am not home. I dont fill beautiful even though people tell me that I am. I have forgotten what to dress up in. I just pull my hair back and put on lip gloss. I would love to let my husband see me beautiful again. The thing that is so great is that he never say anything about my look. As a woman I know what he likes. I just need a little boost to get back to where I was. Please help me Tyra.

Hi Tyra! My name is Jill, I am a 24 year old mother of two. I have a wonderful fiancé named Wes. He is an awesome dad and he works so hard to take care of us. The only thing lacking from this wonderful man is his self-esteem. He is a very good looking man but he has bad teeth from some type of bone or calcium deficiency. Wes has had numerous teeth pulled, route canals, and broken teeth. He never had a very good dental care either. His grandfather was supposed to get him his braces put passed away before he had a chance to help him. His father hasn’t been able to help either because he has been battling cancer for 2 years and as you probably already know it is very costly. I don’t know who else to ask for help from but you. You always try to help as many people as you can and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and write you.
Wes barely ever smiles because he doesn’t want anyone to see the way his mouth looks. He doesn’t even kiss me anymore and I believe it’s because of his teeth because before his teeth got really bad things were different. I am writing to you because with 2 children, a home and bills I can not afford to help him. I believe he is perfect the way he is but he disagrees. I love him so much and I feel so bad that I can’t make him happy and give him this one thing I believe he deserves. We have a 3yr old son and a 5yr old daughter, been together for almost 7 years and we have not one picture of all four of us together because he doesn’t like to have his picture taken. I want Wes to be able to take pictures, smile and just be able to look in the mirror with confidence and be able to say I love that person.
Please Tyra, I don’t know where else to turn to for help. It would truly be a blessing to have your help in this. Thanks for taking the time to read this I know you are a very busy woman. I love you and I will be watching you everyday as always!
You are Awesome!! xoxo
