Dating Safely

Security Expert Robert Siciliano gives these tips for dating without putting yourself at risk.
1 Your brain is your best defense. Understand your personal security and the motives and emotions of an attacker.
2 Carry a personal security product like pepper spray, or even a ballpoint pen, which can do damage to the eyes and the groin.
3 Go to the bar and get any drink a man buys you directly from the bartender. And always be aware of what he could be putting in your drink.
4 Use the buddy system. There’s strength in numbers.
5 If you go home with a guy, take a picture of him, send it to a girlfriend with his information and tell him that someone knows who you are with and where you will be.
BONUS TIPS
6 Never go outside alone with a man.
7 Everyone (even men) should take a self-defense class to learn about vulnerable body parts and about the parts used best to inflict pain.
8 Most importantly, ladies, don’t drink too much! Go out and have a good time but never get to the point where you can’t take care of yourself.

I heard your show on Safe Dating and I just wanted to say, about the girl who said she could tell by someone's eyes if they were dangerous or not, most killers and rapist are not going to look like killers and rapist, by the eyes or anything else. That is how they lure women, by pretending that they are the nice guy and telling you the things they know you want to hear. If every killer/rapist looked or acted like a killer/rapist there would be a lot of women/girls alive today or would not have been raped by someone they thought was looking to "just chill". Tyra by telling that young lady that she was being dumb and ignorant to the fact that you can't tell if someone will harm you by their eyes was a true statement. Even when she picked the "preppy killer" (by looking at his eyes) she still believes that she can tell that way, she is crazy. There are people who have been killed/raped by someone they knew, not someone they met for the first time at a club or bar, and never thought that person could harm them, until they did. The only people who don't like what you said are people who think that they are invincible. I hope and pray that their invincibility is never tested.

When I saw your show I just had to say something. Two of my mother's friends were tortured and murdered back in the 60's in Wisconsin by a man who was a serial killer. He crimped their gasline at a bar/dance club then when their car stalled he came to the "rescue". The only thing that stopped him was someone saw him later crimping another woman's gas line and reported it after the woman got away.
A friend of mine went with me to a bar but I had to leave early to get sleep for work the next day, she wanted to stay with the 3 men (from Nebraska, 3 states away)who had hit on us. She stayed even after I begged her not to. Her mother called me the next day when she didn't arrive at home. She had spent the night at their cabin locked alone in a bedroom petrified for her safety. Somehow she got away from them but will not talk about what they did to her. This happened in a small town of 200 people in a rural area.
Also ladies, keep your drinks with you and covered at all times. It only takes a couple drops of clear, tasteless, GHB to knock you out. It can happen to YOU, be careful and safe.

Trya,
I watched the show in regards to dating safely, and I applaud you for putting something on the air like that. Women have to know that dangers like those are out there and no one is safe! Thank you for having the guts to put serious and life saving shows on for women to learn from.

I am sorry but this show was so dumb...When you called that lady dumb and said she did not care of her life was unnessary and ignorant how dare you say that you dont know her. Tyra you talk like every guy has duck tape and a rope in the car. Most guys just want to have fun 99% of guys dont want to hurt a women but just chill and maybe get some booty nothing wrong with that

In regards to Gina, I know in FL theres the Bakeract which states if you are an immediate danger to yourself or someone else you can be held in the custody of a psych center up to 72 hrs for observation. Would is not be a consideration upon Gina placing herself AGAIN in immediate danger to place her under a similar NY act?
