my mother died from cancer when i was six and there wasn't anyone who understood to talk to me. i just wish they would have on tv people who have lost mothers to cancer just to help others cope and keep on moving in their lives.

Hi tyra I just wanted to share my story.
My dad and I have always been really close. We would do everything together. But then one day everything completely changed. When I was about sixteen my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer. It was about the size of a lemon and it was located on the back of his tongue. The doctor told us that if he didn't get checked out then he only had TWO months to live. Now if that was shocking enough. It was in the final stage if his cancer and was really severe, nobody knew if it was possible to get rid of. So my dad attended his radiation treatments and 2 of his 3 chemotherapy. Since this was on his tongue, and the radiation burnt his tongue so bad, he wasn't able to eat. He couldn't swallow anything, not even his own spent. This went on for a whole entire YEAR. Since he couldn't eat, they installed a feeding tube into his stomach where he would pour in Ensure in very very small amounts. From the chemo he spent a little over a week in the hospital and it looked like he wasn't going to make it. At that time he didn't have anything to eat (through his tube) and he didn't want to be around anybody. Since the chemo makes you so nauseaus. It was extremely hard to go through and I cried myself to sleep every single night, thinking that he would never wake up again. I don't know how he did it because he went through a lot and he didn't deserve it at all. He didn't smoke a day in his life and that's the usual cause of this cancer. He is the best man and father anybody could have. If he didn't have me taking care of him and the support of my family, he wouldn't be here with us today. He just started eating a couple months ago and it is hard for him. He can only eat certain things and it takes him twice as long as a normal person to finish his meal. It is still a struggle today. But what keeps us going is that he is kind of a legend. He is doing 100% better then doctors expectations and he is helping out other people with a similar diagnosis. He truly is an amazing person and I still cry today thinking about how he did it.
