I am sadden by the comments that I hear because this is a self-esteem issue that most minority women are dealing with. Unfortunately, from an early age, we are taught from our own families and society that thick hair is unattractive. Yes we are beginning to wear our hair natural but mostly in some type of braids or dreadlocks. Not many of us are wearing our hair "out" in it's natural healthy state. We are too ashamed and worry how other people will react to the "puffy hair". Look at black hair magazines. They tend to only show straight long weave hair and relaxed hair styles. When they do show a natural hair, they will show a women with biracial hair that has loose curls. I am proud of my thick tightly curled hair. I go out in public with my natural hair and I get mixed reactions.People, mostly other women, have talked about me and laughed. I find that men tend to embrace my natural hair. You have to be confident, know who you are and know that God made you in HIS image.

Hey Tyra. My name is Hermionne and I'm 17 years old. I have the worst hair anyone can possibly have. If I didn't look so terrible as a baldheaded person, I would probaly go bald. My hair has been through so much. It keeps falling out, its been 2-3 years now. I had thick medium length hair. Last April for my birthday I got a relaxer done by the Dominicans in Brooklyn, New York....the hairdresser left the relaxer in my hair for quite too long. I urged her to rinse it out. Everything seemed okay after, until a few days later the middle of my head wouldn't stop itching. I noticed that everytime I scratched it more and more hair would fall out. During gym class I patted my head and a large amount of hair was in my palms. It's really embarrassing. Overall, my hair is shortm but the middle of my head is like a boys'. Since my hair is alread short, its hard to cover it up and the sides of my head are just terrible. I've tried treating it professionally, but unfortunately that didn't work. So yes I'm always going to be the black girl with the thick short messy hair. This really affects me because I don't believe that I have good looks. I just wish something could be done. Maybe braids? Idk. Do you think there's any hope for my hair? Can there be a miracle? Please help me. I'm graduating in June and I already decided not to attend my prom.

Hi Tyra, I am a 34 year old black woman who has felt ugly and insecure for a long time. My family has the worst gene(I feel it's a disability) ever! There are 3 generations of women (including myself) with hair thinning/baldness. My grandmother, mother, cousin,and I are dealing with this issue. It is a very hard thing to live with. Me and my family live our lives hiding behind wigs, and hair weave (we have to use the bonding glue to make the hair stay in place). Who wants to wear wigs in their early 20's? (Unless it was a fashion statement). I have been on medication for depression, feeling no sense of self- worth. My favorite game was the blame game. I would blame my grandmother for passing the trait to my mother (both are completly bald in the crown area)and my mother for passing it to me. The older I get the more depressed I get because I don't want to look like them. I know that's not nice, but that's how I feel. I know how hard it is for my mother and the way she feel when she looks in the mirror. I'm her mini me, I feel the same way. When I'm in transition from taking one hair weave out to put another in I just cry and say that the person in the mirror is not me. The mirror is my worstest enemy. I'm always looking for different methods besides wigs to help my mother, myself, and my cousin. I feel even worser for my cousin because she's younger and have it just as worst as my mother and grandmother. I would always question god like why us? I don't have a life and neither do my cousin because of this. I 've went to school for different things but I didn't have the confidence I feel I needed to succeed in the work force/business world or any world( I still don't). People can be so mean making smart comments like we choose to look like this. I need help dealing with this problem. If not physical, at least mentally. I have 6 beautiful daughters, and if one of them have this problem in the future I need to be there to support them mentally. I didn't get that kind of support when this started happening to me because my mom was (and still is)trying to cope with the same issue herself. My grandma just tell us all to throw on a wig. That's because that's all she knew. For once we would like to feel normal, like going swimming with my kids, putting our hair in different styles (without seeing the tracks from the weave), ponytails, etc. If there is any help possible in the Illinois area we would love it if you could guide us in the most affordable direction besides Hair Restoration surgery places. Your information and help could save 3 possibly more generations of the same humiliation that I've had to deal with. Your help is greatly apreciated!

I always get comments on how my hair is so frizzy. I can't straighten it at all its always supper curly. I get made fun of sometimes because when its even a little humid outside I get a crown of frizz around my head! Its insane. Please help me solve my frizzy hair problem.

Tyra, I am 37 and been dealing with the forehead issue since I was a kid. What can I do to not make my forehead look so large and out there? I never wear my hair back off my face. I think you should do a show about people with large foreheads.

Hey Tyra! I'm a white girl in need of help! I'm hair clueless. I've tried many styles over the years, the most recent of which has been a sling bob. Okay Tyra I have a hair problem that no one on here has said. I have what they call Trichotillomania which is the urge to pull hair and on top of the it's frizzy and I can't do much with it because of that problem. I want help in the worst way to over come this. I want to be able to have a cute hair cut and professional hair coloring which I'm unable to do. This has been going on since I was in middle school and I'm 26 now. Help me please.

I am 60 years old and I have been using big curlers to take the frizzy wave out of my hair for as long as I can remember. My hair is brown and medium long. I have had it cut in layers for a very long time because it use to be so thick. Now it is thinner and I am trying to let it all grow to one length. I have never had a really professional haircut. I need help. The only time I like it at all is when I go to Las Vegas where the humidity is so low that my hair goes straighter. I live close to the beach so you can guess what my hair is usually like.

hey tyra i have really puffy and curly hair! sometimes it gets soooooo tangeld i take 2 hrs in the shower de-tangeling! i feel like i tried everything and it dosent work! the only way its manageble is if i go to the salon and flat iron it and blowdry it! and its still stays frizzy! help me tyra!

I really like your hair. I know that it isn't a typical hair weave even though that is what you refer to it as. Can you please give a young African American girl a tip on how to have a natural look without having the natural equipment. Please tell me what type of weave you wearing. My daughter is 7 years old and suffers from hair problems. When you comb her hair it just comes out, when you wash it it just falls out and with braidsalso. Her hair willnot grow in one spot of the back of her hair and I feel as though I am doing somethiung wrong. My other two daughters hair is fine.

39 yr old African American female, used to have healthy thick and beautiful hair until all the years of abuse / neglect/overprocessing/home perms caught up with me. Started wearing hair pieces and wigs for fun several years ago, now they're a necessity. Found this sight while looking for natural cures for baldness/alopecia (one slick and shiny bald spot at crown). I was just thinking today about cutting it all off and starting over. I have the worst hair ever!! My hair is very very curly and parts of it are straight! It's very poofy, nappy,and i ahve way to much of it, and dry!!!!
My hair can never stay in place!! I wake up looking like a bomb just hit my head! and to at least make look a little better i have to put mouse, hairspray, and gel!!!!

I am almost 40 and have NEVER had a good hair day! I have read all of the comments on how thick,curly poofy hair is bothersome...Try having baby fine hair. I mean if you put it in a ponytail it is as big around as maybe a finger. I have tried
short,layered,permed,straight and it always looks mousy and flat.Sorry girls....Flat is what's WHACK!!!!!!!

Just want to tell you first off that I love your show. Anywho, I am a biracial female (my mom is black and my dad is white). All my life I have been perming my hair and I recently decided to let it grow out naturally. Unfortunately, that involved a lot of breakage and what not. My hair has never been this damaged before in my life! I know its stupid but I can't stop hating my hair! I'm trying really hard to grow it out, because I want long hair as soon as possible. My sister has long hair and so does my mom so I guess that it runs in the family..but I don't understand why its taking me so long! I do everything that I'm supposed to, do you have any advice?

My hair is so poofy!The only thing I can do with my hair with out getting it wet is putting it in a ponytail.I used to have my hair down to my butt until I decided to cut it over a year ago. I noticed that the majority of the comments about bad hair come from girls with curly frizzy hair...I have very curly hair and the best advice i have gotten is to start taking hair vitamins..they do make your hair noticeably healthier but they also make my hair less dry and frizzy....also dont flat iron every day, it melts your hair and makes it very unhealthy.

I watched your show a few times and the one I keep thinking about is the America's Worst Hair episode. I feel like I have terrible hair!!! I'm 14 and I'm going to high school this year and I wanna look cool. I got a relaxer in my naturally curly and thick hair in I think like the summer before I started 8th grade. It took away alot of the volume, but it broke the front of my hair!!! The front of my hair looks stupid. Its sorta like i have bangs that r like a little bit curly-ish and stick up. So I have to wear a headband or a bandana everyday to keep it down so no one sees it!!! I'm also a dancer and when I do competitions, I have to bobby pin my hair with like 4 bobby pins on each side. I'm gonna start to straighten my hair for high school, so I was wondering if u have any tips on how I can get it into a cute straight style. (I've had to straighten it before for my competitions because we have to have a low ponttail and my hair is too curly and thick for that... lol. so my "bangs" are I think like a centimeter above my eyebrows.) I'm getting a haircut for it, but I'm not sure what I should get to make it look good. If u have any pictures of any of your previous hairstyles with bangs or something like that, that would be very helpful. (I also need tips for when I have my hair curly. Because I'm not sure what to do about my "bangs" when its curly... except for wearing a headband or bandana... lol.) Thanks for your help!!!

Dear Tyra i have AMERICAS worst hair. I have been struggling with it since i was young because my mother is white and im mixed. Unfortunatly i inhereted my fathers texture or style of hair. It is short, very thick, dark brown goldish color (so it kinda blends with my face), and damaged. Im afriad to cut it shorter because it might not grow back. It might seem petty or insignificant to most people with out this problem. Since everyone in my family has beautiful long hair and also my friends i feel kinda like the ugly outsider, Tyra is there any way i can help my hair grow or even make it look nice short??????

Hey Tyra, i have to say i don't have the worst hair, but if i don't style it curly with my products or straighten it with that oil stuff i have the DRYEST hair ever, its so corse and dead, what can soffen it up?

HEPL!!! Your hair always looks nice and you always say that you have a weave. Sometimes the hair you wear looks like a wig. A high priced wig. The kind you would wear in a movie with a hair line and natural part. You can do anything you want with it like real hair. Is that true? If it is, do you have any that are off black that you donate? My hair has gotten thin around the edges and I don't have much of a hairline any more. I have been wearing a hair weave for long time and I always wear it in a mushroom (pageboy) style to hide everything. A while back a beautican caused some of my hair ro fall out and it has never been the same. I have gone to Bosley hair replacement (not that I could afford it) but they said they couldn't help me. I went to one of those places that makes the natural hair wigs, some say for the movies, but they were very expensive.
The one you had on when Donald Trump was on your show was nice.
I saw a movie with Sean Connery called Medicine Man. For a man that was a bomb wig. He could wear it in a ponytail and everything. It was slightly wavey. I have wished for a wig like that since I saw that movie. To have a hairline again would be a great felling. It would be a dream come true. I could give my hair a break from weaves and I would have a lot more confidence. They say a womens hair is her crowning glory. I haven't felt like glory since I was 30 years old, when I did have a hairline.

I wish I had Americas worst hair, but unfortunalty I have a condition called alopecia where you lose your hair. I have hair...just very little. I have been dealing with this since Iwas about 13 (I'm 18 now) I LOVEEE your show and what you represent. You give me the strength and confidence I didn't have as a younger adult.
I know you wear weaves and I have had mine for about a year now. I'm not really sure if its a weave or a wig because they weave it into my own hair, however it covers my entire head like a wig. But I was just curious what types of weaves you get and how long you keep yours. I have to get a new one every year that costs about $1300. It definetly leaves a whole in my pocket as a young college student. I'm working my way towards being a young confident succesful woman just like you tyra. I am 18 years old, and about to be a college freshman. I happen to be biracial; my mother is white and father is african american. All my life I have had WILD hair!!! Most biracial people that I know have "good hair" or at least hair that curls nicely and/or actually straightens when its needed. Mine barely does either. I have tried everything from creams and relaxers to ceramic straighteners and hot combs. It just wont cooperate. My hair is the worst hair in the world. It's puffy, extra curly (it almost look like an afro), nappy, and super frizzy. When I tried to get it staightend it only lasts for a week. Then it turns back into the same poof monster all over again. My mother asked would I like to get a perm but I always say no because even though my hair is a big poofy mess i still love it. So if I get a perm and dont take care of it my hair could become seriously damaged or even fall out. I may only be 13 but I still have the worst hair in the world. Hey Tyra, I have naturally curly hair that is really thick. I have tried product after product to help control the frizz and puffy curls and nothing has worked. I am 16 my hair is naturally curly and thick, but it also gets so frizzy.Because it is so frizzy I get made fun of at school. So most of the time I just pull it back in a pony tail. SO my advice to others is to just love your hair the way it is. I have had to learn how to do that.

Hey Tyra. I just turned 16 and my Mom is a hair dresser and I think that she should be "up" on the hairstyles. Well she tends to poof her hair like back in the 80's and I HATE it. Yes she did grow up in the 80's but this is 2007 and I think she needs to do something trendy with it. I am going to Pioneer Career and Tech. Center for Cosmotology. Could you give me some advice on what I should tell her what to do with her hair? Oh and I don't like her hair color either. It's been blonde for a long time and I think she needs a change. Tyra, My sister and i both have terriable hair hers is soooo frizzy and mine is 4 or 5 different colors i am 16 when i was 12 or 13 i dyed it from beautiful blonde to black not realizing it was going to last forever so i dyed it blonde a couple of months later to lighten it up a little well it didnt work but my roots coming out did so it was blonde and black with red (red because i dyed it red with black streaks) so then i thought...hmmm something neutral a couple of months later i dyed it brown... lets just say i should have thought that threw more now its black blonde red and brown and i hate it i just want to be blonde again what should i do?

I don’t think I have America’s worst hair, I know I do. In fact, my hair is so bad that you will have to place a warning on your show before anyone have an opportunity to see my hair. It’s just that shocking. I’m black, my hair is thick but it is very, VERY nappy. When it finally grows it will immediately break out in patches and I don’t know why. It is almost like my hair should never be long and my system aborts the hair growth all together. The short ends are very nappy and even if I perm my hair I cannot get it to relax. I love wigs and that is what I wear I don’t think I will ever wear my real hair again I am so done with my hair. 

Tyra, I can honestly say I have horrible hair. I used to have pretty, straight hair, and I was happy with it. But then the lice epidemic got me while young, and with all the shampoo and treatments, by hair was damaged beyond repair. Since then, my hair has become a nightmare. First of all, it is practically dead. It is extremely frizzy. It is so big, that if I were to take a picture with it down, my hair would literally be my background. I can't even do anything to it and I spend 30 minutes each day just trying to put into a ponytail. I break about 5 hair ties a day and it falls out like crazy. Just buying hairspray is crazy too, I bet I'm hugely responsible for the hole in the ozone layer. I just want to be able to control my hair instead of it controlling me. Please HELP ME Tyra!

I just want to say that I saw the way those women looked before tyra and her friendly hairstylists gave them the a complete look that they should have started out with.my mom used to be a hairstylist and when she does my hair she tells me the truth about whether or not I should have this or that in my hair and I just have a lot of respect for her for that!!!Ladies and as well men too you should always go to a trained and professional hairstylist no matter what never do your own hair or someone else's hair unless you have a license from beauty school saying that you are able or legible to do hair.trust me on this one now I may only be 12 and a half but a few years back now that I look back on it,I did a girl's hair and I mean I cut her bangs and everything I thought I did such a good job until her mom got home and came and talked to my mom about what I did to her daughter's head of hair.now of course I was grounded for a little while but that made me realize that I ruined that childs hair and she was younger than me,I felt so bad that I couldnt face that child or her mother for a week.

Turns out Im going to talk about mine, too.
You see, my hair is outrageously curly. In kindergarten, it was board straight. Later I cut it short, and it looked axactly like Merilyn Monroe's hair (my friends kept reminding me!). My mom and I have been testing out different products, and I think I have one that works.
Not only is it curly, it's frizzy! Any beuty tips would be MUCH appreciated!

I have extremely curly and thick hair. If I don't put gel in it I can't step out of my house because it's so poofy. Sometimes I wish I lived in the eighties because atleast then my big mop would have been accepted. In addition to the natural poof I live in Florida. The humidity and heat cause me to have to wear a bun daily. I have to wet my hair in order to regain my curls and then before it dries stiffen it up with gel and hairspray. hi tyra!! well, my hair is EXTREMELY thick and its very curly....its so hard to keep under control so most of the time i straighten it but i know that if you straighten it too much it damages it...making it more frizzy then it is. I never know which products to use though because either way it still kinda messy looking...any advice??

I am sixteen and i have some self esteem issues (my friends don't think im ugly but i wish i looked like all the other girls (straight hair, gorgeous body, etc) and although other people think i don't have bad looking hair, I DO...
My hair is frizzy [it really poofs when i get out of a swimming pool and it starts to dry :(]

hi tyra. i'm watching your show about americas worst hair, and i think i have it. its wavy (which actually would look fine)frizzy, and poofy. i have to spend 45 minutes in the morning with my flat iron, and tons of hair products that don't work that great. i would love to get it professionally straightened, but i can not afford that, since i'm trying to save for a car and college. and whenever it rains or its humid, it frizzes up, so there is another 45 minuted to fix it. my boyfriend tells me i'm pretty, but how can i believe him when i can't see it myself? its like someone telling you that the sky is brown. you wouldn't believe it, because the color you see is blue. it kills my self esteem. i see a beautiful girl and wonder why can't i look like her? or just normal for that matter. maybe you could help me so i can feel good about my self and make me feel like i can go out to the mall and not have people look at me and think i'm ugly...please help

I was just wondering what product the hair stylists used to help straighten the hair of your first guest. My hair is very similar to her's, when I don't keep it moisturized. I love my curls, most of the time, but I would like to try to straighten my hair. I've tried before, but the products all seem to dry out my hair, which is VERY BAD for frizzy hair. I'm scared to let a hair stylist put all their products on my hair. I was pleased to hear them address this issue, and to hear them talk about the type of straightener to get. But, they did not specify as to which straightening product they used. I would LOVE to find that out and be able to try a new look. I am about to start a new career path and I would love to start it with a new, more professional look. Thanks for any help you can give me with this.

I have watched many segments about make overs. I always laugh to myself, because all your subjects always have a lot of hair. Have you ever given any thought to the older mature women with thinning hair. I have been experienceing hair thinnig since my early 20's. Everytime I go to a salon and ask for something different, they always say "Well I guess it is okay the way you fix your hair." I have yet to meet a stylist that I don't have to go home and fix it myself. If your stylist want a real challenge I have the hair for them.

I have oily very thin hair. My ends are dry but my roots get oily. I have to wash my hair eveyday just to keep my hair clean looking not oily. I tried babypowder and most other lil' tricks, but nothing works for me. I would love to have oil free thicker looking hair. What can I do Tyra?

as a 13 year old girl with FRIZZY curly hair.. my life at school has been filled with torment. my hair has a life of its own and despite all the products i have tried on my hair to keep down the frizz and keep the curl, my hair just poofs up! people will call me the frizz monster or put there hands up around there head and walk around mimicking me. ive gone to tons of salons asking for hair help, but the products they suggest work for a day and then never again. my mom and i have spent so much money on my hair and now we are giving up. i know im not the only curly haired person going through this.. but it is hard going through school like this. anyways, i would just like to say i love your shows and ive tried everything you've said about beauty remedies and i just love you

hi tyra rite now i have the worst hair in the world typically because i chose to i had long relaxed hair and decided to go natural im in the transition process right now, when i saw this page on google i had to post a message because i knew i would find afro-ameriacn women on this page who cant accept who they are God gave you that hair and instead of turning yourself to another science experiment try and find natural products that work with your hair.

hello Tyra all i have to say is that i have the ugliest hair is so frizzy and bushy. i have been wearing pony tails ever since i was 14 yrs old i am 31yrs old now i dont know what to do with it. i have to use the strongest relaxers they make to calm my hair down. i cry sometimes because i see everyone having there hair loose and i can't do that. i have tried everything please help me give me some advise.

its not me with the bad hair and look, its my mom. shes in her early 40's so she really shouldn't look as old as she does. her hair is just a wreck, i've tried so many times to help her do something with it but she just complains that she doesn't have the time or money. she has naturally curly hair but she doesn't flaunt it at all. its frizzy and dry looking and shes starting to get some grey. i just think that if my mom was able to do something great with her hair, she can start to look great and young again. also, she has THE worst taste in clothes, she wears the same thing almost everyday and wears my old sneakers that are beat up looking. HELP!!! My hair is bi-racial, some pieces are straight, some are nice spiral curls, and others our just out of control. I have tried so many different kinds of hair products, and none of them seem to work. They either make my hair look plastered to my head or they do absolutly nothing. I have some pretty brutal hair. My natural hair was really poofy, frizy and it was curly, but you couldnt see the curls through the frizz. So I got my hair chemically straightened. It worked wonders the first time, but when I got it done the second time, it ruined my hair. My hair fell out along my main hairline going back, the very front, and underneath. Now, its grown back about 2 or 3 inches, so all the hair that fell out, it now extremly short. Now I have to straighten my hair everytime I wash it, because if i dont I have about 3 inches of crazy curly frizzy hair, then it just falls down straight. And since I straighten it so much, its so damaged, and the ends are really dead and split.

And I know that she is self concious about it and it breaks my heart to see her like that at age 6. Her hair is long,curly,freezy, tangily, poofy,dry as the dessert, and course! Biracial hair has to be the worst! People can be biracial and have many diffrent hair types. I recently went on a website and they had many diffrent hair types up for biracial people. My hair was not there. It was not one of the 1-5 numbers, but "The exception". My hair is frizzy, poofy and down right out of control. I walk down the street and see all of the white girls with their perfect straight hair, or thick curly hair and I wish I had it too. I try using the straighting iron, but it becomes a hassle every morning because I dont have enough time before school to get up, take a shower, do my hair, get dressed, eat, check my homework and get in the car in one hour! Tyra, I need help, hope, and prayer... Then I have to deal with Vitalgo on the left sideof my face, you know that mysterious diease that Michael Jackson has. I have had it for about 15 years, now. My self-esteem has went way out the window since Vitalgo, no matter how much a person could say I am pretty, or my boyfriend calling me sexy. Really I wish I had a picture just to show you, but of course I don't like taking them. I have used various makeup for coverage. Fashion Fair was the 90's now it's all about MAC. My problem may be quite easy to resolve, but I would like to be able to take a picture one day and feel pretty (normal). Without an uneven skin color tone in the picture. Am I applying too much? What is it? I guess my question to the Queen would be what am I doing wrong with my hair and makeup?

Hi Tyra, well my problem isn't that my hair is to frizzy,curly, puffy or just everywhere. My problem is that it's falling out. I'm 18 years old and I have half the amount hair as I did when I was 16, thats when it started. I take a shower and it just comes out. Every week the drain gets clogged. My hair falls out on my pillow, I find it on my coat. My dad is partly bald and I dont want to look like that, I have a boyfriend I have dating for 2 years and I know he loves me for me but I want my hair back. If I do not blowdry my hair smooth, it blows up into this ugly and weird frizzle. It feels hard, just like horse hair or straw. There is no way that my hair would not look funny if I washed it and left it to dry. People have commented on it too.
It's terrible and I am sure there is no cure.

My hair is not America's worse, but it's pretty close! My hair is dirty blonde, naturally wavy, but EXTREMELY frizzy! It's so bad, that I have nicknames such as "fuzzhead" and "frizzy". Even though I know that the nicknames aren't meant to be mean, but they hurt me after being said hundreds of time-mostly by my sisters. I have tried straightening it-it helps a little, but I mostly rely on defrizzer products that get rid of about 1/2 of the frizz. I went to a salon, and she showed me how to use a diffuser, and gave me products to make my hair not frizzy (which work well, btw). But...they just make my hair HARD (like when you use way too much hair spray), and when I brush my hair out the next day-it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to do so! Curling my hair with a curling iron makes my hair REALLY pretty-but the curls come out within 30 minutes, and my hair becomes it's usual poofy self. My hair is really damaged too, and a lot comes out when i wash my hair or comb it. I've tried everything-all I want is nice, healthy, shiny, smooth hair that I can run my fingers through. Please send advice Tyra!

I'm 15 years old, and I've been struggling with difficult hair ever since I was in 3rd grade. I am half Hawaiian, so my hair has always been thick. I am also half British on my Mom's side. So I have that hair advantage usually as well. Here's my story, in the complete and honest truth. No exaggerations, etc. My hair was ok until I started hanging out with a girl who dyed her hair a lot, and got me into it. When I first dyed my hair my Mom was deeply against it and warned me it would make my hair frizzy. In which it did. That very same year in 3rd grade, there was a girl who kept calling me names like "fuzzy wuzzy was a bear" and she would not stop until my Mom had to contact the principle of the school. 4th grade was alright, I just pulled my hair back in a pony tail or braids. When I started 5th grade I dyed my hair again, yet again to my Mothers disapointment. Then through 6th, 7th, 8th, and this year when I was in 9th, I was figuring out how to tame my frizzy hair. My Mom isn't very rich, but she got me a hair straigtener last year, once again to her disaproval. She said in the most caring way ever "honey, I only bought this for you to make you happy, but I think you're going to fry your hair so please do not use it!" but I did. For the past two months I have been straightening my hair without any protection from the heat every three days. Then I noticed it was thinning my hair out. I am too afraid to tell my Mom what's going on and how depressed it's making me. I know she won't get mad or anything like that because she is the most caring Mother in the world and I wouldn't have it any other way! I'm just afraid to tell her because I don't want to worry her with my hair anymore than I already have. Plus, I was a very uncontrolable child as I was growing up (up until 6th grade is when I became very classy and loving to my Mother more than ever. I was always loving to her, but I was one of those kids who "if I don't get my way, it's the highway", and I've been nice and pleasant to be around to everyone) Anyway, I don't know what to do. I can't even tell my Mom what's going on with my hair. May 15th was my birthday, and the day after I was completely depressed. My Mom comes in and makes sure I'm tucked in at night and tells me "sweet dreams, I love you!" and I say it back to her, but I was crying so bad because of my hair situation I couldn't speak, so I just said "k.." very quitely. She then asked "are you ok?" and I said "yeah." but I wasn't. For the next two days I was very depressed, and my Mom took notice and tried comforting me, even though I would not tell her what was wrong. I am still very depressed over this, but I don't want to affect the people around me, so I've been acting happy and I am happy some of the time, but not always. I'd say it's 50/50 with my happiness and sadness. Then I was watching your show the other day with those women who deserved those make overs, and you said at the end you would do it again. This brought the first real smile to my face in the first 4 or 5 days. I think this is the only way I can tell my Mom what's happening to my hair without being in complete embarrassment. I also think that if you can help me, this is the only way I can boost my self esteem and happiness. So please, Tyra, help me. It would mean so much to me!

Hi, Tyra. I would love to see a show that glorifies all textures and types of hair. As an African American woman whois trying to go natural, I've spoken to many other girls like me, young and old and they all had something negative to say about the choice i was making. Another part in that is the self hate that african american girls undergo when they see women with strait or wavy hair on televison or in the high end magazines and the women they should be relating to have curly hair that looks nothing like theirs. Pleas do a show that lets girls like me feel good about their nappiness.

When she came back she was laughing so hard, I asked her whats so funny she said " the woman inside asked me what kind of dog do you have in your car and I told her it's not a dog it's my sister!
I'm sure for the woman it must have been one of her most embarrasing moments. She apologized but was very embarrassed. For my sister and I it was very funny we laughed all the way to work. I was a little embarrased myself at first but after I just realized how blessed I was having all this hair. I see so many women with thinning hair and I feel so sorry for them, some almost look like they're going bald.

i love my hair curly hair but it is TOO curly at times and can be hard to tame. i'm a mixture of korean and african american and there is absolutely no salon that can cut my hair the way i want it so i so far i've just let it grow really long. i need a product that can just go in my hair and call it a day. i always knew that i'd get up early in the morning to get all cute for school but it can take over hour to do my hair. what 16 year old wants to break up their sleep schedule..not me at least. i like just throwing it up in a bun but even then people ask me if i put it in two buns because i have so much hair. i mean even if i want to wear it in a ponytail it's a hassle. To tame my hair i have twirl every strand around my finger. After i put in my conditioner and it's soaking wet. then after i do all the twirling around my head i spray gallons and gallons of hairspray so that it will hold. if i don't...lets just say i look DON KING. honestly what girl wants that. but to spend so much time and effort can get old really fast especially when my parents are in a rush to go out. i love my hair but it is just do difficult. it just really frustrates me that i can't do different type of hairstyles other than bun, ponytail or half up half down if im luck. the bun fine but spraying that with tons of hairspray can't be GOOD. on top of things i also have tried to straighten my hair which every hairstylist i've been to is like why and how...well i thought you know if amerie's hair can be straight and look nice than mine could do since were from the same ethnic background. it just be really cool if a salon or some hairstylist could go passing through my town..whose up there and knows how to work with my hair. i have yet to find a salon even close to helping my needs. And my poor mom is at lost for words because she doesn't know what to do. when i was in elementary i had to chop off my hair too my shoulders because there was too much hair that it just was a huge big knot that i couldn't untangle so my mom CUT IT OFF and SAVED IT!!! as a reminder. and it hasn't evened out since then. know its to my waist but its like layerd...but in a BAD way. trust me one can't layer my type of curly hair which a hairstylist tried and just made it worse. i mean you can't tell unless i put it in a high ponytail...which is NEVER. i just don't know what to do anymore i even tried mixedchicks hair products that worked the first time but after that my hair seemed to say no way girlfriend, you can't tame me. i don't know it just likes to rebel against anything. i just need to tame it. sometimes it can even start to get in my way during track and on top of it if i want to try and fix...the more i touch my hair it gets frizy and nasty. and people want to touch my hair and play with my curls all the time...they say it reminds them of spring since you can pull it really far away and then it will spring back in place. but the more they touch it the more it becomes IRRITABLE you could say... and i'm not going to freak out on people. o if you could help me i would it would be greatly appreciated. im really at a lost. especially right now that its getting hot if feel like cutting it all off since it seems to attract heat. Please help!!!!

I've got Trichotillomania and I have short hair..I think it's getting noticable but I only pull hair from the back so it's hard for me to tell. The left side is growing back nicely but the right side is getting bad. I love short hair so Im probly going to just shave it as soon as school gets out. I change my hair styles a lot and I have a style I really want in mind but I dont think I'd be able to pull it off. So if you have any tips, I'd love to hear them.

I was born with VERY curly brunette hair. I loved my hair, it reminded me of Shurley Temple. But, now that im grown my hair has lost its 'very curliness'style. And yes, that is a good thing. Im trying to go for straight hair, but Im not doing to well with that since it takes me about an hour to straighten it in the morning, and I dont have that time! Some times, well most, I keep my hair curly, but when I comb it my hair turns really frizzy and wavy and.. just picture an afro! Im afraid to brush it now, since I dont want to go looking like the next "Foxy Cleo Patra". I put my hair in buns, but Im missing my hair when its down. I CANT STAND HAVING MY HAIR IN THE SAME STYLE EVERYDAY! And if I do want my hair down, it needs to be wet, no acception, but when it dries up, thats a big UH-OH. Thats when my afro comes in.. ok, i get out the shower and i blow dry my hair, i have to put the dryer on cold air because if i dont, my hair will get all frizzy. anyways it still does get all out of shape, so then i have to straighten it, and im worried that the heat is messing my hair up. then after i straighten it, it get all bent out of shape AGAIN through out the school day. what am i supposed to do, how can i get shiny healthy straight hair!!!???? Hey, this entry is for Brittany. I'm a bi-racial child too and i've found it really hard to find products and hair styles as well but just resenstly I found a product that i never in a million years thought would work. Basically it tames frizz and uncontrallable curls, but it doesnt take away the curl which is cool. Keep an open mind when i tell you the name, i never thought it would work either. It's called Garnier Fructis Style Brilliant Shine...i have the Extra Strong one.Give it a try if you want, hope it helps!

It is a form of OCD which causes you to pull your hair out by the roots, leaving large, embarrassing bald spots. I started this about the time I hit puberty, so it caused me alot of heartache growing up. I wore my hair either pulled over the top of my head to cover the baldness, or wore a hat. Boys teased me, and wouldn't dare to date me, and girls didn't want to be seen with me, so I had a few close friends. I did get married, and though I SWORE to myself that I wouldn't walk down the aisle bald...I did...then I swore I wouldn't be bald when I became a mother so that my kids wouldn't be embarrassed by me...I was...I'm sure they were at times, though they never said anything...My greatest wish is to find SOME way to put hair on my head, to look in a mirror and see what I would consider a "whole" person. To have my parents, who I'm sure felt my heartache and pain, see me with a full head of hair. To have a hair "style", instead of pulling it up in a top knot to cover the baldness. To not be buried bald..THAT is my greatest wish.

My hair is a mix of curly, wavy, and straight that definitely frizzes in summer weather. I have to straighten it every day, and then hope that the weather doesn't make it go CRAZY! I wonder what it would be like to be able to get in the shower without those that are waiting for me to moan and groan about how long they'll have to wait for me! I've heard about "thermal reconditioning" or "Japanese hair straightening," but it is SO expensive. Is this a good route to go to permanently straighten hair?? Are the results as great as they sound?? Also, I wonder about pricing and what it would cost. I don't want to make a mistake and I've never personally seen anyone that has had this treatment. What do you think?

My hair comes a little pass my jawline and its permed and dark brown. Also, I have eczema in the back of my hair so it's really short in the back. I have a formal im going to in 3 weeks. Since I was a little girl (I'm 27 now) I've had the biggest problem with oily hair. I've tried every treatment from special shampoos to witch hazel. My mom used to say you could fry things in my hair. I hate it. I can wash my hair and halfway through the day (without excessive brushing or even touching it with my hands, I know that's a big NO-NO) it's an oil slick.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hey Tyra! I'm 15 my hair is so bad it frizzes like crazy and is also very greasy. I can't go without washing it for 1 day otherwise it looks really dirty. I always end up pulling my hair up into a messy bun but my brothers make fun of it. Do you have some other suggestions or styles that I could use on my hair instead of the "bun"? My name is Angie and I have had diabetis since I was 8 years old, I am 24 now. My hair used to be a beautiful dark brown and very thick. Now it is very light and has thinned out a lot. It just hangs straight, I can't do anything with it, and it is a struggle every day. The diabetis has taken a tole on my hair and even other things that women and men consider beautiful. Is there any help or suggestions?

I know black women have to cope with the history that lives through our hair. Why do you relax your hair? Do you know that putting chemicals into your hair weakens it? That means when you are older, don't be surprised if you don't have any hair. In fact, I understand you want to be a role model for all women, but first you have to look at yourself. How do you expect young black girls think as famous black women as role models for their people while they have natural hair and you don't. You should do a show on the history of black hair. I have HORRIBLE HAIR! and worse? I'm getting married in Key West, FL next April, and I'm kind of starting to freek out. Since I'm getting married on a cruise ship, i'm kind of stuck with who ever they have on board to do hair, either that OR I have to do it. It's mid back length and .. I'm as white as white can be... but girl let me tell you I have BLACK girl hair. It's frizy course, thick and curly, it's about as unruley as possible. I straight iron it every once and a while when i have 4 or 5 hours to do absolutly nothing. I haven't been to a solon in over 3 years, I can't find someone who knows what to do. I went in and the lady cut layers in my hair, and I looked like a pyrimid for 2 years. So, i have really bad split ends(i trim them myself) and I use expensive shampoo and conditioner. It sucks, when I'm picking out hair products, I get weird looks from african american women, like I'm buying the wrong stuff... but I know it's the only stuff that works for my hair. I think i have bought every frizz out product there ever was, and maybe a few twice, I have three flat irons, and 2 blow dryers, because I have to switch back and forth or they get tooo hot, and or burn out. I am terrified that for my wedding day I am going to have UGLY hair like every other day of my life. I can picture, the perfect dress, the perfect day, and everyone I love (70 of my closest friends and relatives) on a cruise ship, and me, walking down the Isle with BIG UGLY hair. It's my only fear about my wedding, i should be scared about loosing my luggage, and or my 5 year old son getting sick, or Grandma getting hurt, or all the other crazy things that can happen with desitiation weddings, but what am I scared of? Okay I have a problem with the people you have on your show that claim to have bad hair. That stuff just seems made up to me. Sorry:( However I feel that I have a real problem. Being a black woman with a few other nationalities in my blood I know what bad hair is because I used to have GOOD hair, but it was ruined by my mom when she put a relaxer in it. My name is Briana and i have a hair problem. See my father is black and my mother is white, so black hair products are usually too strong and white ones not strong enough. I'm about to go into highschool and i'm ready for a change, because i've been wearing pretty much the same hair style for all of my 14 years (a pulled back ponytail, which could eventually lead to a receding hairline). But because my hair is curly I cant do bangs and my mom is afraid that a perm will ruin my hair so any option of straightening the bangs if i get them is out. What should I do to spice my hair up? I have read over many of the comments posted on this site and have seen many women complaining of thin or balding hair. I have been losing my hair since the age of 16 when a family friend over permed my hair causing it to fall out in clumps. Prior to that time my hair was extremely thick and full. I was not to concerned and found that it recovered and only was a bit thinner which at the time was fine with me...But now at 28 after two children and many visits to the doctor i find myself with extremely thin balding hair and no answers in sight. I would really appreciate if you would choose this as a topic to cover on your show. It seems that most doctors have no idea what to do and no treatments besides hair transplant or rogain. I know that this is an issue that many young women deal with and causes us great grief and would appreciate if you could research some solutions and air a show to this widespread but rarely talked about topic....

i just bought new extensions, and i took them to get coloured to match my hair.
they destoryed them
and make me help them fix it
on top of that, they didn't even get it remotely to how it was before
and left it half undone so they could go out for dinner.

What is the best way to straighten your hair without killing it. I have long aubern hair down to my back and after I had my first daughter it went curly and frizzy. So I can do it both ways but i dont straighten it all the time because it makes it so dry and takes too long. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm from Singapore and just seen this episode a few days ago. I have frizzy hair and so went to rebond my hair. But ever since, my hair has been falling quite badly. The part on my forehead has since been very thin and everytime i go to the salon, i would request to cover them with short fringe and the extra hair from the back. I used to have very thick hair but now, i'm experiencing thinning of my hair and i have kept my hair at shoulder length. Recently, i went to this salon and the hair dresser suggested that i go for a hair extension, similar to straightening. I told her that i was afraid that this would further worsen my hair fall problem. However, she said that this technique is different and chemicals would not touch my hair scalp. She also mentioned that hair loss can be due to other factors like stress, the things i eat, or because i have a weak hair scalp. Hair extension would make it look like i had more hair and it would not look flat and keeps my hair neat. I would like to know if hair extensions would add more stress to my hair scalp and hence cause more hair to fall. I have read that hair extension is only a temporary method and might even worsen hair fall problem. My hair is still frizzy and i would like a neat and easy to manage hair. Should i go for the hair extension? What can i do to solve my hair fall problem?

I have baby fine stright thin hair, it will not hold a curl or a wave, I have tried perms but they breaks my hair, I braid my hair every night just to get a little wave and have to use hair spray every day to try and keep the little wave I get.

I was just reading through some of your comments on America's worst hair and I happened to read a comment I believe it was by Lisa. I know what she's going through I have a condition called alapecia ariata(not sure if i spelled it right) buts it where you get bald spots on your head and sometimes it can grow back fast but then other times it can take 6 months to grow back. I hate having it sometimes I get bald spots on the top of my hair or even worst my eyebrows fall out and even my eye lashes. But I have a suggestion for lisa is to use rogan the mens kind its the .5% and you put it on every day and it helps the hair grow back. It has helped me. Well i just wanted to post this and hope that it can help someone else who could have the samething I have.

Hello Tyra, Please do a show on the best Flatirons on the market. I stayed up one night to see an informercial on a flatiron that has 1000 little combs and built in steamer. It's all about my daughters hair. I love her curly top, you know the story "she hates it". It's a good thing she attends an all girl school, so monday thur friday she only irons out the bangs the rest goes in a bun or a ponytail. If she has a dance or special occasion, or Sunday mass, she will start the night before to iron out the hair. Help!!!! she will take up to three hours doing this. Having it professionally straighten is out of the question. We have looked into it. The quote was a little steep $400.00 to $1000.00. We watch your show twice a day. I am a walking train wreck. I am not sure how I've made it this far w/o hair but I have. It's been three years since my hair started falling out. You know being a blk women, its a disaster. I have been wearing hair weaves until it grows bk but it keeps growing a little, giving me a little ray of hope and then falls out again.

I am almost bald. Some spots are bold. I might have some type of scalp condition but no one seems to know anything. My job is suffering and my relationship is going to end if I don't get help. I have Americas' worst hair. For my birthday I had it dyed. Well, the color developed and it was GREEN, with brassy lowlights. I had it re done by the same woman four times. on the 3rd time she said I had to bleach it becuaes it wouldn't hold color. So its as white as paper. Then the manager says she'll fix it and gives me lowlights which actually would look good if my hair didn't feel like cotton. Well, that was back in December, and now its almost May. My hair still feels like cotton, and it breaks off in inches. I've tried everything to fix it ,I've even quit blow drying it and straighting it but still no luck. What should I do? I really don't want to pull a Brittany and shave my head.

I haven't really told many people about my situation because I am ashamed. I have a scalp condition that is called Deep Folliculitis and I get pimples in any and every place that I have hair. It is being treated with antibiotics, but it takes my hair out. I am 27 and mostly all my hair is bald around the crown area. It has been this way for about 5 years. I wear tracks, but I can't seem to find the right stylist. My hair always seems to look crazy. Do you have any suggestions about what I can do with my hair?

I recently had a horrible hair disaster... I am German, 15 years old and my natural hair is blonde. I once dyed it red and after a few months made it blonde again, but it was a much lighter blonde than my natural hair color. So from then on every few months id go back and get highlights. One day i got fed up with dying my hair so i decided to get lowlights and naturally grow out the chemically damaged hair. The problem is i live in the philippines and asian hair is 3 times thicker than european. so many of the hair dresses are used to having to put more chemicals to color the hair. anyway i told my usual hair dresser wat i wanted and he turned it into black! i went back the next day because i didnt like the new look and he said he would remove all the chemicals and make it blonde again but he did the same thing again! so i told him to just put blonde highlights in it but because of the mix of light blonde and black it appeared grey. so a few days later i went back and told him to take all the dark hair and make it blonde.. but with a Golden blonde. Instead he made my hair white! you may ask why i kept going back to the same guy, but the truth is he always did a great job with my hair before and it didnt cost anything to go back. Of coarse after he turned it white we decided to change hair dressers. The new guy completely fixed my hair. although it is still very light and my hair is completely ruined from all the chemicals. Its been a month now and my hair has recovered very well. I plan on going back to the new guy in about a month to get it to become a nice golden blonde but before i do i need to get it much healthier. I know you where hair extensions but do you have any tips on making natural hair healthy again?

I love your Top Model show and have been meaning to write to you since when you were doing the weaves on the girls. I also have a thyroid problem and very fine hair to make it wrose. Because of the thyroid making my hair fall out and my fine hair I look horrible. My sister that has the same problem tried putting a weave in my hair (she has no experience, at all) and made it so much wrose. I want to attempt putting in another weave. I was wondering what supplies I would need because I'm not sure where to go in my city.

I really believe that I really have the wrose hair. I can't use a curling iron or a flat iron because it won't work or last long anyway. Please let me know how I can make it better.

Tyra, I have been looking over everyone's comments about their hair. I don't think I have the worst but I am closing in on first place. Over the last 3 years I have been losing my hair. I have thyroid problem which makes it come out every easily. I have a small bald spot on the top of my head and I just don't know what to do with it anymore. My hair is long, almost to the middle of my back and cutting it short worries me. I am over weight so finding a hair style to fit my face, personality, and keeping my husband happy, it is next to impossible. I know when you are over weight having your hair too long or too short makes you look worse. Any suggestions? Love both your shows and no matter what anyone says you always look great. Keep it up.

I am deathly afraid of hair stylists. I don't have hair problems, I have a problem of what to do with my hair. If go to a salon and ask for a cut that fits my face the stylist get upset with me because I don't know the cut I want. I'm 46 years old and the length hair is from 0 inches to 4 or 5 inches depending on where you measure it. I have broken most of it off because I wear a braid most of the time. I think you are absolutely beautiful. Your hair is beautiful, it looks really light though, what color is that? My hair does that too after a few flat iron runs. I can dye my hair darker and after a few runs with the iron, it is really light.

Hello Tyra! On one of your shows, you said that you feel most beautiful in without the hair weave. You know with your natural hair braided. Well if that's the case how come you never come on either of your shows in braids EVER? About a year ago I cut all my hair off down to 1/2 in. Previouslly I had been wearing a relaxer, but got tired of chemical burns and breakage. Now my hair has grow back to about five inches of virgin afro hair. When I am alone in my house I enjoy my hair and feel beautiful.Although when I go out into the world I begin to feel that my hair is ugly. Almost like in white america I have to hide my God-given hair to fit in. Is this the way you feel and the reason I only ever see you in weaves. Also you were unaware, many black women and starting to wear their hair relaxer free. Maybe if you wore you hair naturally sometimes it would help send out a positive message of acceptance for kinky, nappy, afrolistic natural afro hair. Black women struggle so much with hair issues.

Thanks for all that you are doing for all women, especially younger women who look up to you as a role model. I am a very young and fit 53 years old (which is ancient to most of your viewers I suppose), but still love most of your shows anyhow.

I found your show on "America's Worst Hair" to be interesting. All my life I've had exactly the opposite problem of all the women on the show. While I have no complaints about my natural blonde color, I hate the texture of my hair---thin, baby-fine, oily and lifeless. Most products for thin hair end up making it look even worse. On top of all of that, I don't have a good face shape for short or mid-length hair and I also don't want to look old before my time either. I also like having it long, because then when the humidity is 95% or it's really hopeless, I can at least tie it back. Perms and coloring have not helped, especially since they just grow out anyhow and damage my hair.

You did a program about one "extreme" in the world of hair. How about a show to help those of us at the other extreme who have non-existent hair because it's fine, thin and lifeless with no shape or form whatsoever? We're out there with very few options to improve the appearance of our hair. So many products in the store are for ladies with thick, curly hair and we feel left out of it all.

I love your show, my hair is always a mess. Whenever I wash and dry it, it gets extremely frizzy. I have to put frizz cream in it,but it still gets frizzy. When I straighten it, my little baby hairs just won't stay down.

I do not think that anyone could have hair worst than mine. It won't grow. I am so embarrassed by my hair that I cover it up ALL the time with wigs and weaves. I would really just like my own hair to grow or get a healthy weave or braided solution that looks good.

Hi Tyra. I'm 14 turning 15 in a few months. I just read this post and I decided to post a comment. A few months ago I had decided to get side bangs to accent my "round doll" face. People say that it's pretty. But they have absolutely no idea how it gets when it's time to wash it. My hair is extra silkier(from what my mom tells me) than most people, so it's very prone to get greasy if I use any type of hair product. My bangs have a tendency to split apart when they want to, and when I brush them, they separate again unless I hold them together with a hair clip. I don't think it's the most outrageous hair problem in the world, it's just, ugh!

Hi Tyra. Until this past Friday (3.16.07), I did not have the worst hair but now, I feel I do. A girl, who's done my hair on and off for years, but in a different perm on Friday and caused gobs of my hair to come out. I was fortunate enough to have enough hair saved in the front that covered the really bad spot in the back. Before this, I have beautiful, thick hair. Now, I have thin hair that's going to require much work to return to it's thickness. What's worse is I'm not sure if this was an accident or done on purpose.

Before i have alot of hair and is the perfect natural hair with alot of volume,texture to it and etc...but then one day stupid me i want to dyed my hair and then bleach it and then keep dying my hair killing my hair rather than cuttin it off..so later on i bleached my hair 3times and then re-dyed my hair i think about 6 more time so i keep killing my hair without giving my hair a break..but thats was not it..i decided to get a straight perm because after i ruin my hair so many times is not straight anymore...Now i don't really know what to do with my hair so i decided to dyed my hair so it looks like my natural hair ..but it takes forever for my hair to recover all the damaged i did to it...
now --part of my hair breaks apart when i got a perm and my dead hair's still there cause i don't want to cut it..if i do cut it it will be tooo short..everytime i wash my hair after the shower is either i have to blowdry it and put a lil mouse into it so it can have volume or straitghten it but that can only help a lil bit ,you can still see my dry and dead hair..well if i don't blowdry it or straighten it my hair would just flat out,and you can see right away my dryness hair and is the worst hair ever..

I really don't think i have the worst hair ; but i have a dificult one. First of all i have more hair then 10 women together.second i'm puerto rican but i have strong african roots and my hair is curliiiieeee.I got that from my father side ....i hsve done every thing from jelly curls to have my hair iron,i tried every product that i can afford , i have spend long saturdays with all kinds of home remedies that includes mayo and /or aguagate with a shower cap..to get the ultimate shine.and the truth is that if a want nice shining hair it takes either too long or too expensive.
and to tell you the truth Tyra ,I'm a wife , a mom ,a daugheter and an office manager...not alot time left you see..

My name is Sherri and i've had the worst hair ever i think in the whole world. I just wish i could just have normal hair where i don't half to use products in it. I've been growning my hair for a while now because it use to be a short afro and i mean short. I'm a native women and usually you would think nice long stright black hair but no way not this native, my hair is long and corse worst then horse hair and its really curley. My daughter has the worst hair. She's always trying to save money, but the style and haircolor she's sporting now is HORRIBLE. She looks like she spilled a bottle of peroxide on it and then hacked at it with a pocket knife. I love my daughter, but her hair is truly in need of help. My hair is uber bad, I have naturally thick dark hair, but over the past few years, I have self-colored it and straightened it so ofter, that it has turned a gross copper color and is dry and brittle and whenever I go outside and the temperature is more than 60 degrese, my hair poofs! It is aweful! It takes me an hour to do my hair, and then I have to sleep on it to get it more calm, and re-straighten it in the morning! Hi, I do hope you are the one reading this, I watch your show when I get the chance and I really do enjoy the topics you cover most of the time. I have a common problem that I share with many other women but it isn't talked about much. I have very thin hair and I have to wear a hairpiece, which I really hate, but I have no choice. I watch those ads about hair replacements for men and they do say it is good for some women but you just don't hear about women getting the help. I know it is very expensive but I can't afford anything like that so I live with my problem. I would really like to hear about help women can get that doesn't cost a fortune. I am presently unemployed, and when I work I live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to pay my bills, so there would be no way I could afford hair replacement, I am trying to save up to buy another hairpiece, but it will be awhile so I live with what I have. I will have to say i have the worst hair ever. I am a young African American woman. I am 18 years old and never had a date before or a boyfriend. My hair is very very short I am going bald already. I have huge bald patches in the middle of my head. I have huge pimples in my scalp also and very visible for others to see. It's very hard for me to do my hair. I have very low self-esteem about it. I never get asked out. All of my sisters have long hair and i dont and they always making fun of me and calling me outrageous names. Hey Tyra. I love your show and watch it everyday. My favorite episodes are the ones where you give people hair makeovers! And let me tell you I need a hair makeover. I have been struggling with out of control hair my whole life. I never wear my hair down because if I do it frizzes out everywhere! I have curly hair that I just cant figure out how to control it. I have even tried to have it straightend and controlled by professionals and they couldnt even do it. So I just continue to pull it back in a pony tail with lots and lots of hairspray and mouse! Hey Tayra I am responding to the show that aired as a repeat on Feb.28, the worst hair in the world I have to admit I was very disappointed with the results of the make overs. I have curly hair and when brushed out it looks just like the first girl that had the big hair. The answer to almost all of the hair repairs was to make it straight. I am 37 years old and have finally started to embrase my curls because for a working mom of 2 I just simply do not have the time to straighten it all the time...The message I got watching that show was not to work with what you have on a daily basis but to change it. And all of them where changed to straight hair. It’s confirming what I felt my whole life that straight hair is better and I am offended. After years of struggling to change how I grew up feeling the Tyra banks show just reinforced my suspicions after all these years which is change who you really are...I want to know how young girls with curls are supposed to feel and frankly I am not sure what message you are sending them you are so righteous about young girls and there self-esteem when today I feel like you went out of your way to make fun of people that didn’t have pin straight hair and to me it is inexcusable I think your people should make sure you are more sensitive to your entire audience we all don’t have personal hair stylist and make -up artist..Tyra be carful ..women and girls and there hair is a very touchy subject.

I need to know the hair straightening products used on Katherine's hair during the February 14th show.

I have the worst hair in Canada. It's always been my bane. I'm late for work almost everyday because of it. I have mid-eastern hair and it is very dry and breaking off because I straighten it so much. I have to wash it almost everyday because I work out almost every night and it gets drenched from sweat. I have to chemically straighten it and flat iron it so it can hold up in humid weather. It cannot be worn naturally because it's just way too frizzy, and has no consistent pattern, it's consists of funky waves/curl/ and just pure frizz. Growing up my brothers would always call me "Captain Cave Man" from the cartoon. Straightening it makes me feel like I look normal (if that makes any sense). I spend alot of money on hair care products (protein treatments, heat protector, shampoo, conditioner, not too mention the $700+ to chemically straighten it). I'm getting married in the fall and my fiance has never seen my hair in it's natural state and I don't think he's suppportive of me cutting it short. I feel like I'm deceiving him and I'm worried he won't be attracted to me if he really knew what I looked like. I have a feeling we may argue alot too, because once we move in together we will be commuting downtown together and I cannot make him late as I always am now. And what's worse is that I'm starting to grow quite a few gray hairs and I can't even colour it because it's not strong enough. I am very open to suggestions on how to care for my hair that is not so damaging and time consuming and makes me look more like a beauty than a beast. I'm not even looking forward to my wedding day because I know my hair will look awful. I wish I could just throw on a wig. I don't think I've ever admitted all this to anyone...except to maybe my mother (since I took after her). I know there are people who are much more worse off in their lives, and I know it sounds silly and even vain, but the truth is it's hard to feel good about myself (no matter how hard I try in other aspects of my life) when I have to struggle everyday with something as simple as the hair on my head.

I feel I have terrible hair... I have been looking for ways to get a hair transplant because my hair wont grow, its falls out its just ugly. my husband makes fun of my no having hair. He has never really seen it though because i keep it braided and i never take it all out because i dont want to feel bad or more ugly. My hair is SO weird. One, it's really thick. Two, it's really dry because I've died it so many times (and I've stopped, I swear!). Three, it takes the highest level on a hair straightener to finally get it straight. Four, whenever I get it cut, it always ends up looking funky.
I would totally trade my hair with someone else!

My uncle lives in Paris (now in Singapore), and when I went to visit him, he payed to get my hair cut at a French hair stylist. He also payed to get it chemically straightened! (Yes, my uncle is amazing.) I was so excited. But, now the chemicals are leaving, and it's back to the craziness!

Hello, My name is Ashlie, Im almost 18 years old. All of my life I have been fighting with my hair problem. It is really hard dealing with it. My hair is really tightly curled. Horribly thick. I cant wear it down and dry when its curly because it is way out there like a fro. I have to wet it to put it up everyday. I wear my hair in a bun everyday. I go through a bottle of hair spray every month to a month in a half maybe even less than that. If I straiten my hair it takes 2 hours or more the longest was 4 hours because its extreamly curly and thick. It takes me forever to brush all of the tangles out. I have never had it dyed or highlighted. School was really hard for me elementary through high school I got the nicknames "poodle" and "Mop Top" I use to come home crying all of the time. I was on depression medicine for a while because I was so self conciouse. Tyra, I need advice or something done, can you please help??

Tyra, no one ever done my hair when I was in elementary and I have been trying to do my own hair since I was 11. Being that I never had money at the time to go to the shop and get it done or buy the proper hair products,my hair was completetly damage and short. I am 18 now and my hair still damage and short. I don't know how to get it to grow. Now I am buying all kind of hair growing products and nothing has changed.

Dear Tyra, my biggest self esteem problem is my hair. it is naturally dark with horrible grey coming in at the roots. I contribute this to having a full house hold of 5 kids ranging from 6 to 17, and i am only 35.
Anyway it's dyes black and i have been growing it for 3 years and it just stopped growing and started to bush.
i would die for extentions, that would make me feel so sexy! i can deal with being a bit chubby, but when i see those lucky girls with the flipping from side to side hair, i want to cry.

I have sufferd with the worlds worst hair since I was in middle school. When I decided to cut my hair off when I was in elementary school I have had to ware my hair cut and weaved up. It is hard, brittle, dry, very damaged, and unmanageble. Once when I was gettiing it done for my birthday I had put a black rinse on it the week before and then I went to the shop and I wanted it dyed blond, I forgot to tell my cosnmotolgist she started to bleach my hair and it turned money green all over. She had to put uncolor on it and wash it 10 before it finnally came out to a dirt brown. I was unhappy on my birthday and then at the end of the night by so may chemical be placed in my hair that day when i went out and started danceing and sweating my hair began to fall on the floor. I walked went home and cryed myself to sleep on my 18th birthday.

I am a 30ish mother of 2 boys that say the song "1985" by Bowling for Soup, was written for me! I have very thick, poker straight natural hair. It is an ugly brown. So, I have colored it a mahogany with hi-lites. Then to eveyones shock, I got a perm! There is only one way I know how to style my hair with a perm: lots of mousse and tons of White Rain Mega-Hold hairspray!!!! My hair is so big that not only my kids think I fell straight from the 80's but so does my husband and the rest of our family! Please help me if you can! My family deserves to see me looking beautiful. They have been beside me thru health problems and so many accidents that I should not have lived thru and I would love to do something for them.

And just for you, I think that you are a beautiful, powerful role-model for todays youth. I wish that I had girls so that I could have them looking up to you for a hero.

Now there is no boyfriend and I do like my hair a little long. I have been coloring my hair to blonde. I would like to get a real blonde. Now my problem is that It is always dry and flys away.
I have a great job now that I have had for 3 years. I am looking into getting into manangement. But I want to look the part. My hair is a problem. It goes it own way. Not my way. Hi Tyra! For the past two years or so I have been dying my hair blonde. Natually, my hair is jet black. The issue that I am having and have always had is this: Every time I go to get my hair done, I tell the stylist that I want it blonde. How hard can that be right? Well, I've ended up with orange, yellow, white, red... Recently, I started doing it myself because I figured, well why pay someone so much money to screw it up, when I could probably do a better job myself. You should see my hair! I was so disappointed in some of these girls on the show. It was obvious the 'scene girl' and the one with the rainbow dreads were on myspace--they both scream of a bad myspace page, so I looked them both up and of course found them. I knew on the show the scene girl was not happy with the makeover. She was pretty ungrateful for a chance of a lifetime! But then I noticed the one with the dreads posted a blog saying she can't wait to get some money so she can get her dreads back. What the hell! There are plenty of people in need of hair makeovers over these ungrateful girls. The other ones who got makeovers seemed genuinely thankful and that's good, but next time you guys shouldn't waste your time and money on people who don't show appreciation.

Hi Tyra, saw your show today and I have a friend who is in definite of help. Her hair used to be naturally curly until a stylist tried straightening it and coloring it at the same time. Plus where we live, the minerals in the water damage one's hair as well. It is a nasty rat's nest.

Tyra I think I have America's Worst Hair because my hair is frizzy,damaged,and dry every time I take a shower and wash my hair it gets frizzy when I wash my hair I towel dry my hair a little and then let it air dry but when it's air drying it's so poofy and frizzy I get teased at school when it rains and my hair gets wet and poofy and I tried all those fancy shampoos for dry,frizzy,and damaged hair and NOTHING works please help my Tyra it's like my hair is allergic to water P.S. I am truly stuck in the 80's with big, frizzy hair. I color it once in a while. I always used the box colors when I was younger but now have my daughter highlight it. The problem is no matter who styles my hair, I go home and blow it back to my same old style from the 80's. I am part black and part white so I have a lot of fine frizzy hair that looks full but is actually not. My hair changes texture with the weather. When I lived in Brooklyn, NY it was curly like a jerry curl in the summer and now I live in Arizona it is more without curl so then I have to blow dry it and put in curlers to get curl. Anyway, they say I have a pretty face but never wear my hair off my face. I just never really know how to do my hair so basically it stays the same. I would love for someone to give me some new ideas because I never have time for myself. I used to take more care of myself when I was younger (in my 40's) but let myself go. My daughter who is a stylist says there is no hope for me because I don't listen to her when she tries to change my hair. So, what do you think. Is there hope? hi tyra i just finished seeing the episode on americas worst hair. its ironic that i switched on my t.v. and their it was and i was just complaining to my parents about how drastically my hair texture has changed in the last 6 months. i used to have that average latina hair, dark black. and if you put mouse in it i had beautiful curls and if you blowdryed it i had beautiful straight hair.but i cant even recall the moment it began happening but i would come out of the shower and it was pin straight and so dry and burnt-like that it looks like a straight frizz ball and it tangles. if i blowdry my hair its ok but the ends feel burnt if i put mousse it doesnt curl anymore. but it falls off easily. my hairdresser cut it because she said it would solve the problem and i think she only made it worse because it hasnt grown since she cut it. tyra, id do anything to get the texture i had before. please help.

What happen is that i have a short hair and i don't like it, i've been try to have a long hair since i was 13 year old, i do my hair by my self and i try really hard on it, some time my mom and my dad will come to my room around 11:00 pm telling me i need to go to bed, but i tell them i can't because i need to finish doing my hair. I have dread locks and have had them since 1989. They are below my rear end. I try not to work in the corporate sector, but even in back office/mailroom jobs etc. people are brainwashed about the whole good hair/bad hair syndrome. Besides that, it seems that your views perpetuate the whole idea that crimpy or kinky hair is bad and should be straightened. So many people watch your show that when you do those shows on hair you make my life more difficult, especially among young people. It's already a problem that black girls think straightening and weaving are the only things that they should be doing with their hair. Since you're this fashion guru, you should do a show that promotes all the beautiful things that can be done with black peoples' hair without straightening. This other stuff is taking us backwards in the hair department and reinforcing self hate and low self esteem as far as beauty is concerned. And, as we all know, that spills off into all kinds of areas in our lives.

Hi Tyra i love your so soooooooo much. Okay well it's not just my mother, it's me too! My mothers hair is sooooo well you know wack. it's two different colors. My hair is okay i guess. It's a natuarl blonde and it has never been permed or primped. But the problem is it won't do anything! i even try to put it into a ponytail and it frizes and by the time i reach back to pull it up, the rubber band is half way down my hair! For me and my mom it's horrible when we're invited to lets say elegant parties, because our hair just falls down out of braids, ponytails, curls, everthing! Please Tyra, help me somehow. hey tyra! i wouldn't say i have the ugliest hair cuz i know there are others who had it worst. I am 19 years old and asian.However i dont have that typical thick jet black asian hair..i envy their hair! I have the total opposite..THIN,soft and blk/brownish hair. I had thin hair ever since I was a child. it sucks. not only that I also have oily hair. i wash it once everyday. Thin and oily is the worst type of hair anyone can have..its looks WET and it looks even THINNER. I cant leave the house feeling good about my self unless it is washed which i dont have the time to do evey morning. i tried washing/blow dry my hair at night before going to bed, well that doesnt work it just turns oily as soon as i wake up. Caught part of the show, I think women that show there own personailty is cool and great, we do that with many things in our lifes not just hair. Sometimes it is easier to just shave it and go bald due to many issues we all face. Maybe more power to the Bald is Beautiful?

OMG! PLEASE HELP my daughter, Alisia (A-lee-cee-a)! For ten long years she has been wearing weaves that she's been gluing onto her own hair. Every time she would replace the old weave with the new weave, the glue was taking out her hair; and she would add more glue to what little hair she had left! Well finally last month she decided not to wear weaves anymore, and her hair look like a HOT MESS! The ends of of hair are completely bald ... the top of her hair is long and uneven (vision Don King) ... the back on her hair is short (gotta get in that kitchen)! Her hair is so damaged that EVERYTIME she combs her hair, hair is EVERYWHERE! She refuses to get her hair treated because she is embarassed on how her hair looks. She also has the AUDACITY to put a flat iron on the top part of her hair! So for one month now, she's been walking around the house looking like Don King's Queen! Just a HOT MESS! My daughter needs tremendous help with her hair. She's got to go to somebody's beauty shop! Somebody PLEASE HELP Alisia's hair catastrophe! I can't take it any longer and neither can she!

It would be nice to see a show where thinning and balding hair is addressed. I am 60 years old and I know thinning hair is a part of growing old, but mine is excessive.

My hair is a mess!!! It is so thick that I can never get it to stay. I could try every hair product out there to get it to stay and it won't work. It also gets really poofy. I'm so lost in what to do so i usualy walk around in only two hair styles. Those are either pulling it up into a pony tail or wearing it down. Please help!

My hair well its a Srunchie or a clip day everyday. Havent had hair colored, cut or styled in about 6 years. If its colored its done by me but havent done that in long time due to got it all over the bathroom door and won't come off have to paint. My hair is Dark Brown almost Black. I cut my hair myself if needed. I bend my head over and chop chop to cut the length. My Grandma is a beutican for over 30 yrs and she always did my hair but i moved from Texas which is were im from in 1996. Every since ive been scared to let anyone do my hair for fear they will cut it short or mess it up worse than it is. I also have another embarrassing problem but he its you tyra i think i can let it go. I have been suffering from Dandruff for quit a few years and no matter what over the counter shampoo's i get it doesnt make it go away. We are not well off in fact we struggle just to keep afloat and do not have medical insurance. So can't afford a Dermatologist to check out what is going on with my scalp. You name any shampoo for dandruff ive tried it. All with these ingredients Salicic acid,coaltar, Pyrithione zinc, ive even tried Hydrogen peroxide with a cotton ball applying it per the book Haircutting for Dummies. I know you can't get your hair done when you have this condition no one want's to do your hair they will refer you to a dermatologist so that is a big reason also haven't had hair done in long time its embarassing. It itches all the time to girl and then there go the flakes falling down likt snow. Please help me tyra im tired of living with this problem and tired of having no style i will have no problem coming on to the show and letting evertbody know i have this problem if you promist to help me get it fixed. Tyra, I think you're beautiful,however, I do believe that your hair sleek straight and dyed that extremely light brown almost blonde does not suit you. My personal opinion, but I believe you should stick to a darker brown, with those awsome curls around your face. Love your show, Julie.

My best friend and I both have curly super thick frizzy hair! Is so hard to control the friz!! especially her - she has kinky curls, a super lions mane!! I have to wet it every morning before school (even if its cold) so it could be good and pretty well sometimes when it wants to its pretty but if not it gets all puffy and messy. Sooooo please Tyra help me with my hair problem!!!!!!
