Hide Those Bags…and I’m NOT Talking About Louis Vuitton or Prada

Valente
Tyra’s Makeup Artist Valente Says:
Finding concealer that will hide the evidence of your late night twirling on the dance floor might seem like mission impossible. No need to wear sunglasses all day because I’m here to arm you with the necessary knowledge to hide the dark circles under your eyes.

FIRST THINGS FIRST
Before applying concealer, take a look at your skin. If you have normal to dry skin, use a moisturizing cream first to hydrate and prepare the area for concealer. If you have oily skin, choose an eye cream that’s formulated for oily skin or silicone based. There’s no oil in silicone products and they serve as a vehicle to help concealer glide on the skin.

Next, take a look at your dark circles to determine their tone or color. If they are a grayish tone, apply a pink or pinkish tint to the circle to help neutralize the color. If you have thin skin with visible veins or a reddish hue, use a sheer green tint. If you have purple or bluish dark circles, try using a light or dark peach tint, depending on the shade of your skin. Also with purple or blue under eye circles, stay away from blue or purple eye shadow because it will accentuate your circles.

After hydrating the eye area and applying a neutralizing tint, apply a concealer one or two shades lighter than your skin tone. Apply product using your fingertips or a sponge. When I’m doing Tyra’s makeup, I like to use my fingertips because sponges absorb more of the product. When using your fingers, apply concealer in a rapid patting, or stippling motion. Body heat from your fingers will cause the concealer to melt and blend in more easily. After applying concealer to the eye, I use a tissue to blot off the excess product. Pull the quilted layers of the tissue apart so you’re working with a very thin piece of paper.

FINISHING TOUCHES
Set your concealer using a finely milled loose powder. Less expensive powders aren’t as fine, so powder will settle into the creases of the eye. A high-end powder that’s very fine feels like silk, will set the makeup well, and will not crease. Yves Saint Laurent makes a fabulous loose powder. After you apply loose powder, let it sit for a few minutes while you brush your teeth or apply other makeup. This is also a great trick for catching eye shadow fallout when applying eye shadow. The excess powder acts as a protective layer and prevents the shadow from blending in with the concealer. After the powder has set, brush away the powder and eye shadow with a quality fan brush.

THE GRAND FINALE
One last tip, if you suffer from chronic dark circles, try not to use mascara on your bottom lashes. However, if you cannot bring yourself to done bare lower lashes, try using a waterproof mascara which won’t travel or smudge.
