Treatment for Top Skin Issues
Dermatologist Dr. Amy Wechsler gives you the facts on the most common skin issues, and how to deal with them.

PROBLEM: DARK SPOTS ON THE FACE AND BODY
WHAT CAUSES THEM?
It’s not only sun exposure, a small pimple or a slight scratch can heal and cause PIH, post inflammatory hyper pigmentations of the skin. The darker you are the more likely you are to heal darker.
WHAT’S THE TREATMENT?
Bleaching creams (hydroquinone) are available over the counter in 2% options. Philosophy makes one with a great name, “A Pigment of Your Imagination,” for $30. Porcelana Serum is only $6.29 and it’s also a 2% option. For better, faster results you need a higher concentration of at least 4%, which is only available by prescription. The HUGE thing is to use sunscreen anytime you go outside while treating your skin. One day in the sun will kill all the work you’ve done bleaching the spots out, and they’ll come back darker than before.
PROBLEM: STRETCH MARKS
WHAT’S THE CAUSE?
Personally, I think that 50% is genetics and the rest is a result of losing and gaining weight/mass rapidly. You’re most susceptible after you’ve had a baby, when you’re a teenager and growing, and if you’re weight training. These marks are created because you have thinned the skin in these areas, resulting in a loss of skin and pigment.
WHAT’S THE TREATMENT?
You only have a fighting chance to treat them when the marks are red or purple. In the office the fix is a laser treatment. With one treatment you will see results in a few weeks, but generally people need two or three follow-up treatments to get rid of them. When stretch marks turn white there isn’t a lot you can do. Doctors and plastic surgeons talk a lot about treatments that help create skin, neo collagen. However, I think it’s a lot of B.S. and I haven’t seen any good results. Tanning does not help because stretch marks won’t tan like the rest of your other skin, but they’ll take a self- tanner. I strongly believe in Dermablend makeup. It’s waterproof and intended for full coverage, and they will custom match a color to your skin color.
PROBLE: HAIR BUMPS
WHAT CAUSES THESE?
The bump is a reaction to an ingrown hair. I’ve seen women that have them not only on their bikini line, but also on their neck because they’ve shaved the area.
WHAT’S THE TREATMENT?
People use a pin or a needle and sometimes tweezers to dig at the hair. Stop! It makes it worse, not better because you are not skilled at removal. The pin needs to enter the skin parallel to the surface; please save this for a professional. Prevention is key. Don’t use multi blade razors. It’s a marketing ploy. They are not good for sensitive areas because they are actually pulling the hair from under the surface making it more likely to bend and curl under the surface. Shave with a single blade and only go over the area once. I know it’s not popular but I truly recommend using scissors and trimming very close to the skin, but not under it. You will have to do it more than shaving, but you’ll minimize the potential for these curling hairs to do their damage under the skin. If you have scarring, Curad Scar Therapy Clear Pads are only $17 and work well when applied daily for eight weeks. They are silicone sheets that you cut to size and stick on. They’re not good for active inflamed areas, but good for a scar over time. If it’s an area people can see, wear them at night and sleep with them on.
PROBLEM: DRY, ITCHY, ASHY SKIN
WHAT PREDOMINATELY CAUSES THIS?
Surprisingly, water and soap are often the problem, not the solution! People are in the bath or the shower WAY too long and use way too much soap. People also over exfoliate with their shower puff!
WHAT’S THE TREATMENT?
Re-evaluate your routine. I recommend ten-minute showers with warm water, not scalding hot, and only use soap at the end of the shower and not all over your body! Contrary to what ads tell you, you do not have to be squeaky clean to be clean. It’s a ploy so you’ll buy more soap! If you are, you’re basically stripping your body of its natural oils. Your arms and legs don’t get dirty on a daily basis unless you’re rolling around in dirt. Soap your under arm, groin, neck, chest, feet. I like cheap fragrance-free soaps, like Dove for sensitive skin, Purpose, and Lever 2000. The fancy soaps that smell nice are VERY drying. Also do NOT use a facecloth unless you’re using a fresh one every day, and who does that? I’m not a fan of exfoliating puffs if you have dry skin. You don’t need to exfoliate every day, because you’re not just removing dead skin, you’re also removing the live skin. You should moisturize twice daily and I love Cetaphil in the tub, not the pump. There are prescription ointments for excessively dry skin, but good skin starts with good habits.
ARE EXPENSIVE MOISTURIZERS BETTER? (I.E. LA MER?)
No. People equate cost with worth and goodness. If you paid a lot for something you want it to work, and in your mind you will make it work because you’ve just spent all this money. The problem is these creams are not regulated. Manufacturers don’t have to put percentages on the label, therefore you have no real way of knowing what’s in the expensive cream other than a lot of marketing.
IS SUNSCREEN OVERRATED?
You should always wear sunscreen! Even some foundations come with sunscreen added, so there’s no excuse. Keep an eye out for Anthelios SX from L'Oreal, available this fall. L'Oreal has FDA approval to market a this new over the counter sunscreen, which is the first sunscreen product in America to contain a chemical called ecamsule that has the ability to block both UVA and UVB rays.

Hi Tyra....I watch your show all the time, just about everyday. I keep meaning to write in with my problem and now have the time to. See the thing is, is that I have real fine baby hair, everyone says that it's a blessing that it doesn't take hours for my hair to dry. But the thing that noone knows is that I get in-grown hairs on my legs. Like EVERY hair is an in-grown hair. I've had this problem ever since I started shaving my legs in like 5th grade. I don't know what to do. Each one is like a little pimple I don't wear shorts or go swimming in the summer becuase it's embarrising to have little red bumps all over. I've tried exfolients and all types of things but I still haven't been able to get rid of the problem. I'm 21 years old and a single mom and I don't have money to keep waseting on things that don't work. If you have any ideas of what I can do to try to solve this...PLEASE let me know. Thanks for reading!!!

Tyra,
My name is crystal and i have this bump problem on my legs and my arms i dont know what hey are. I am extremly self conscious and i always wear pants. i see girls wearing mini skirts, shorts, and dresses which i will tell myself im gonna get that but when it comes to putting it on i change my mind because my legs ruin my looks. i dont think im ugly at all but my legs make me feel unattractive and afraid to wear clothes that show off my body. I want peopleto stop saying how did you get those bumps or why are your legs red and why do the look like bumps. I dont think it would be so bad if they were just bumps but the bumps are red. I dont know what kind of dermotologist to g to and one that i can afford. I am in college and i want to be able to enjoy my youth while i can. i dont want to be afraid of meeting guys anymore. im tired of feeling insecure. Im tired of wearing pants everyday, every night i want to wear a dress for a change. I know its a one in a million chance you will read this and answer back but im willing ot try it and i believe if its really meant to fix my legs it will happen. Tyra im asking you to help me be myself, to feel good about myself, and to be able to help me say i feel good. Tyra all i ask is that if you cant help me fix my legs would you send me information on how to fix my legs so i can show them off and good dermotologist that i can refer to. Tyra i need help!

Hi, Tyra! I really love tour show I watch it all the time. You are a great role model for teens my age, and all women, and I look up to you. you've even inspired me to be a model. Being a model is one of my biggest dreams and maybe tou can help it come true. But my only problem is my skin. I mean I beautiful soft skin and I've even some how managed not to get pimples on my face which is a major teen struggle. But my problem is my legs. you when I was younger, by the way I'm 15, my mom told me not to shave my legs but she never actually told me why. She only said "because you're too young". Well, people used to always tell I was hairy and me being a soft person i took it to heart so one day I snuck one of my moms razors and shaved. But since I didn't know what I was doing I didn't wet the hair on my legs and also didn't use soap or shaving creme. PLEASE tell me how to get rid of these ugly, unsmooth bumps on my legs. And why do I have, what it seems to be, large hair pores or folicles. I hate this so much and I didn't find out what the correct way to shave until I was in 8th grade and I started shaving in the 6th grade. I guess it was a self esteem thing but now my self esteem is worse. I mean I know I'm beautiful but it's only my face that is, the rest of me is ugly to me. I even did something stupid like shaving the hair off my stomach because there was a little hair there and now it is worse and I have no chioce but to keep shaving because it keeps coming back and now my skin there isn't as preety as it used to be. Tyra PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me and tell me how I can fix this and tips on how to shave better, like what to do and what not to do. Tyra I am desperate so please tell me what I can and should do. Can you also email me back on this. I'm just 15 and I don't want to be ugly for the rest of my life.I don't want ugly legs. Please answer this. THANKS SO MUCH for taing the time to read my letter. *Alece

I am constantly pulling my suit down to keep the bumps from showing, but it's pretty much impossible. I've tried putting tons of lotion on to even makeup to cover it, but nothing works. A LOT, and I mean A WHOLE LOT of skin problems can be solved by cleansing your body. It makes sense, you wash your face to keep your skin beautiful, but what good does it do when you are toxic and dirty inside!?
Even Oprah had an episode on colon cleansing.
I am doing a cleanse right now, and everyday I feel better seeing the toxicity is leaving. Not to mention my skin looks way better.
ANNDDDD...
A lot of people who have adult acne/under eye circles/psoriasis/dull skin and hair
not only that but an increase in energy, and loosing that pouch on your stomach (which a lot of people don't know is actually build up that accumulates in your stomach)
I expect that most people that read this are super skeptical! And thats good! So I'll give you a link to the website of the cleanse I am using. I'm an everyday girl who can appreciate a healthy body, and I want to share it with everyone!

Tyra! This is a response to the Skin Care episode. You discussed skin care solutions for mild problems, what I would love to see is a show about the psychological effects of more severe problems, like severe acne. I think people forget about this problem and those not affected by it think, "Oh, it's just pimples", but, I have actually missed out and skipped events, nights out, even job interviews because my skin was so bad. There are companies and products that promise results and I end up spending so much time and putting so much hope into these "solutions". Having bad acne feels can make you feel like a monster! I don't ever go swimming in public, I never leave the house without makeup, and I HATE almost every picture I am in. The worst came when I realized how much I avoid mirrors..I was watching a movie and in a scene the actress looks in the mirror, I actually looked away...I had trained myself to avoid mirrors so much that I reacted that way...I thought, "Oh my, I am in trouble". I just want to see an episode where people can talk about this issue and maybe get some advice from dermatologist on the procedures and success rates of those procedures. I see celebrities, like Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz who have had these problems, but once they are at a movie premiere or on-screen, their skin looks flawless...what is working for them? Thank you!

Tyra,
I am 21, married and now I am expecting my first child, which is such a blessing and I would not change it for the world. However, I am now suffering from cellulite. I would love to know what the best treatment is to seriously get rid or help. I was curious to know I see all the victoria's secret models and they don't seem to have any and all the women in hollywood that have babies seem to not suffer from cellulite at all. I was wondering if they do medical treatment for it or what? Thanks.

I heard about it at the Manhattan Mall and this girl came up to me and made a demonstration. I was so amazed because i suffer for rough hands too. No matter how many times i washed my hands, my hands felt silky smooth. Try it and let me know how it works out for you.

Ms. tyra-
My name is nicole and i am a 18 year college student at Temple University. I watch your talkshow and ANTM. My problem is that all the girls that come on your shows have beautiful skin or a exquisite make-up job and seeing this just depresses me. I personally do not wear make-up but I deal with major skin issues all over my body. I have a nickel allergy on my stomach, eczema, and acne. I deal with all these issues everyday but it does not bother me. Every since I started college i have developed this dry, itchy black scab on my face and it looks digusting. It brings my self confidence down more and more everyday. I use proactive and have seem several dermantologists but no one seems to have an answer for me. I hate going out, socializing with new people who didn't know me before this disaster happened to my face and I have just drawn a blank. I don't know what to do and it upsets me. I am not an uglt girl and having this thing on my face makes me feel ugly.Im even having problems with my boyfriend because he is telling me im still beautiful but I always get mad and tell him no i am not stop saying that. It just hurts me and it is hurting my college experience and my social life. What is a young girl to do? You always have some good advice maybe you can help me too(maybe, hopefully) If not thanks anyway at least one of us will look beautiful in the pictures we take.

Hi Tyra, I am so glad you have sking care shows. For someone like me, it gives me the chance to learn how to take better care of my skin. Could you ask Dr. Wechsler a question for me. My biggest problem is acne, menstrual acne to be exact. We are talking blackheads and whiteheads. My pimples begin to appear a few days before my cycle. I usually treat them with some kind of pimple cream I bought at the drug store. When they are finally going away they leave dark spots. I have this problem on my face and back. I tried that hydroquinone cream on my back for a few months and stopped when a friend of mine said she seen on the news there may be chance it can cause cancer. Is that really true? I don't know if the cream helped because it could have cleared a few spots, but not all of them. My skin tone is also a little uneven. If there are any suggestions to improve my dark skin then by all means I am open ears.

Hey Tyra!!
I am a 26 year old woman who suffers from psoriasis. I had recently seen on ANTM that Caridee also had some issues with this disorder. She looks great!!! I was wondering if I could get any info on what she uses or her dermatologist presbribes for her. I know that treatment is kind of trial and error, but I'm willing to try anything at this point. Hiding underneath layers is getting kind of old (and warm). Any help is appreciated.

Tyra
I have really bad black spots on my face. I really do need a miracle done on my face. I will not leave the house with out putting on concealer, makeup amd powders. I will not go to the mail box with out doing the same. This is really a bad thing. Not only do I have to put up with my weight but I also have to put with my face. So Tyra, I wish that you could have me on your show and do a total make over on me, but I know your time is taken up by helping so many other people. One day I had sent in my information for to be in the body make over show. You know where they cut off all your fat and get rid of your body problems. Well if you ever do a show like that please let me be the first one you call to be on your show. I do not care if the world see me get a body make over because it will change my WHOLE LIFE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Tyra,
I love your show. Just had a comment regarding the 'beauty secrets' show. One of the myths that were out to rest is that putting on deodorant can cause cancer. While that is not true, it has been proven that the aluminum (main ingredient) in deodorants is linked to Alzheimer’s disease. Apparently large traces of aluminum found in the body contribute substantially to many who suffer from Alzheimer. One other thing that has been mentioned as high risk for aluminum absorbed buy the body are non-stick pans. It has been said that stainless steel pans are the best way to prevent this type of absorption. Similarly, natural deodorants like 'crystal stick' or 'Lavilin' are alternatives. I believe it, so I thought I'd share.
Much Love

Hi Tyra,
I Love your show it is so refreshing and fun to watch. I saw the show on skin care and i've heard you talk about having to use body makeup when you were modeling. Well my problem stems from a skin disease called pemphigus. Pemphigus causes your skin to blister and when the blisters go away i am left with very dark spots all over my body. I am african american with dark skin. I've tried dermablend but their darkest shade, which is called "dark", looks orange on my skin tone. Can you recommend a body makeup for a darker skinned african american? Desperate to wear the many shorts that are the trend this season.

Hi Tyra,
My special moisturizer is form folica.com. It is made in Germany and it last a long time even though it's only 3.4 fl. oz. I've had it for over a month and the tube isn't even half gone. It's called Herbacin med Moisturizing Cream( intensive care for face, neck, and lower neckline) it's for all skin types and is a great product. Thanks Tyra for listening.

Hey Tyra! You've been a major inspiration to me. Ever since top model began, I've always loved your attitude and spunk. I have acne, it bothers me alot. It's not really bad, but it makes me feel agrivated sometimes. Your show, every show, inspires me more and more each weekday. There's always a bright side, and I love how you express them. Your truly a beautiful human being. I've always wanted to model and I plan on trying to make my way up. I love fashion and it all bottoms down to a career in modelling. I've always been the happy type of girl, who goes to school with a smile. But sometimes other girls like to talk about me behind my back and they don't even know me and call me mean things. America's next top model and your Tyra show, made me feel better about myself each and every day. The winner of ANTM Andrea, she inspired me also. She was made fun of, and she's a very beautiful girl. People may have not thought so at the beginning, but she really is. Thank you Tyra. I'm sure if more snippy girls watched your show, they'd find out their true self and not talk behind my back.

I have horrible exima and it gives me spots all over my body. They wont go away. I have tryed everything, lotions, scrubs, soaps the only thing it does is burn. I am very self contuse about my spots. People make comments to me that make me cry. You will never catch me in a skirt without leggings covering my legs. this condition effects me, my whole life. Even my best friend said something about it. MY BEST FRIEND. It just shocked me the day she asked me what was on my hands and I told her "it's just exima its something I was born with." What made me cry was when she scoot away and gave me a look like I was going to spread a Desiese. It just tore me up. later she realized how it hurt my feelings and apologized. What mostly tears me apart is when people ask me if they can play connect the dots. And it hurts me so bad. I want to be that girl who can whear a skirt and short sleevs during the summer without being selfe contiouse about people looking. I compleatly love winter because I can bundle myselfe up and hide my ugly marks. I look at other girls hands and wish I was normal and pretty like her. I want my skin to be flawless.

Hello Miss Tyra,
I've watched many of your shows regarding skin care and beauty tips but I was wondering if there are any secret products or something to do for large pores on the face? I've always had huge pores since I was a teenager, even though I've always taken care of my skin and now as an adult it's really embarrasing. I have always tried taking pride in myself but Im extremely self conscience about all these holes in my face. Any advice or helpful hints (like the vaseline trick) would be so greatly appreciated!! thanx so much

Posted by: Kechelle | September 28, 2006 07:15 PM
I was shocked to see you recommend Vaseline near your eyes and on your body on a daily basis. This is simply refined crude oil and I would encourage people to research the long term effects of this on your skin. Anything you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream. There is also research that petroleum products will age the skin. People need to look at what products they are putting on there skin!

I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your show! I am from Chicago, IL and I was wondering where I would be able to get the one hour body wrap treatment done. I am a crazy busy college student and I work out five-six days a week, eat right, try to get the most sleep I can, but I still cannot loose the weight in my mid section. I want to loose inches in my mid section so badly, and I really think that this body wrap, in addition to eating right and working out, will help me get down to my goal. Second semester I will be interviewing for a summer internship, and I need to look my best! Please help me and let me know where I can get this body wrap done! Thanks girl! and God bless :)

Dear Tyra,
I'm a 28 years old with an 8 year old daughter. I watched your show on Friday night and enjoy watching you make some else's life happy. I cryed of happiness of knowing that there is something out there that can be done with my face. I have been surrering with acne since I was twelve years old. I have used product after product and still no improvments. I saw what you did w/ mandy's face removing her acne and scars. I would like more information in refernce to what exactly she had done and the price range. I hate going to places and young children always asking what is wrong with my face or why my face is like that. I will never forget the comment that a friend made to me she said, what makes a women beautiful is how clear the skin looks.

Hi Tyra,
I just want to say how much I loved your show on skin care last week. It was funny and informational.
I am 23yrs old and have the worst scars anyone can ever have - STRETCH MARKS. They were mainly caused by growth and weight loss. They're all over my body (arms, waist, legs and some on my lower back) and make me feel EXTREMELY SELFCONCIOUS, to the point were I don't wear short sleeve/sleeveless tops in the summer (eventhough I'd love to). I workout but unfortunately, no matter how fit I get I don't feel happy knowing that I can't wear anything that exposes my arms, let alone, bikinies. In the quest to try to get rid of them I've tried everything you can possibly think of but nothing has worked. I've tried using Dermablend previously on my arms but it looks too creamy and it's hard to find a color that goes with the rest of my skin tone (it does work on my face though). However, I will try a selftanning lotion and see how it works.
Are there any specific selftanners or other makeup that I can use as alternative?
By the way, It may be helpful to some of the viewers to know that Dermablend is excellent for dark spots on your face. I use it on a regular basis to conceal dark spots and tend to notice that it helps them fade/dissapear faster ;-).
Thanks Tyra!!

HI TYRA, I'M WRITING YOU BECAUSE I HAVE DARK SPOTS AND MY SKIN COMPLEXION IS KIND OF UNEVEN. I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. I'VE BEEN TO DERMATOLOGISTS AND EACH OF THEM TELLS ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT. THE FIRST ONE GAVE ME HYDROQUINONE TO USE BUT I SAW NO RESULTS.THEN THE SECOND ONE TOLD ME THAT THE HYDR. IS NOT GOOD BECAUSE IT COULD TURN YOUR SPOTS WHITE OR MAKE IT EVEN DARKER. SO HE TOLD ME TO DO THE MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENT AND I DID.TYRA LET ME TELL YOU THAT STUFF HURT.PLUS IT LEAVES YOUR SKIN LOOKIN UHH. MY FACE LOOKED HORRIBLE. FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS IT WAS RED AND PEELING. I WAS SO EMBARRASSED BECAUSE I HAD TO GO TO WORK LOOKING A HOT MESS,AND IT WASN'T CHEAP FOR ME TO BE GOING THROUGH ALL THAT. ALL IN ALL, THE AFTER AFFECT WAS OKAY BUT TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THAT, I'D RATHER NOT. TYRA IF YOU COULD PLEASE TELL ME A SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM I WILL BE GREATFUL. THANKS.

Hi Tyra,
i was a little disappointed with your skin care show. first, i was hoping there would be some reasonably priced products named that helps with acne and dark spots which is what a lot of people suffer with. i know the girl with acne had some treatments but i know they are very expensive and not everyone can afford those.second, i dont think it was necessary to make all the women remove their make up. this is the second time that ive seen this on your show. i could tell the women were very uncomfortable with it. it is fine if you want to do it(especially since you have beautiful flawless smooth skin) but just think about if you had acne scarring, dark spots, pimples, or real bad melasma and couldnt afford expensive treatments - if that were the case i doubt if you would be removing your make up for the world to see.

I want to comment on the show I saw last night about skin care. I know what Mandy is going through as far as being afraid to be in public because of her skin. I suffer from endometriosis and with this I was put on a medication called Depot Lupron. I started this at the age of 23yrs young. One of the side effects of Depot Lupron is acne. When I saw this I thought "Well, I never had acne before so this won't happen to me". Boy was I wrong. My face broke out so bad I did not want to leave the house. Then, if that wasn't bad enough, the acne that went away left dark spots. I literally looked like a cheetah by the time I was 24yrs young. I have been to 5 dermatologists and had many face treatments and nothing seem to work. I am addicted to buying face products. I spend about $500-$1000 a month on skin products so I could look normal. It got so bad I hid all the mirrors in my house and never looked at people when they spoke to me. People who had not seen me in a while would ask me "What happened to your face". Of course I cried and my self-esteem was so low I knew I would be alone for the rest of my life. The scaring controls my life. I don't know what to do anymore.

Hello Tyra, I wanted to say that I love your show. I think that you are a great role model for all ages. Being a young person only 20 years old, I look up to. But I have heard that when you use vasaline it actually blocks your skin from breathing. Your skin has poor and that helps your skin to breath. Different people have told me that when you use a product like vasaline or vasaline it blocks your skin from breathing. Its made from mineral oil. To give an example to it it acts like ceram wrap. It blocks everything from entering and anything from exiting. I just wanted to let you know. I dont know how true this is. I didnt know if you wanted to do any research on this. But just to know.
Thank you tyra, please dont EVER change. I just love how down to earth you are and how real you are.

Hello, I love your show!! I loved the skin information. I am 30, a wife, mother and also suffer from acne. I've tried murad, pro active, meaning beauty, youthful essence, probably all of the store ones. Could you please tell me where I can get the masque you talked about on the show for the girl that you helped? Thanks very much, God bless and keep up the great show.

Hi Tyra,
This is the first time I have ever been to your website and posted a comment. Although, this is not the first time I have watched your shows. You are one strong independent woman and that is something you and your mother should be very proud of. I like to think that I am as well. Ok to get to the point I watched your show tonight (9/21/06) on Skin Care and I tried to get paper and a pen fast enough to write all your products down. I missed the first name of the eye remover that you also use over your entire face. Could you email me the entire list just to make sure I have the other product names right. Also, I would like to know what stores I can buy the products from (of course not the aveeno bar and vaseline)but the others.Ok and the vaseline you use is regular vaseline that you made look very pretty for your guest right? You are too funny!! I lotion my boobs every morning and night too so we have something in common! We aren't just strong and independent women were SMART too!
P.S.
TO THOSE THAT HAVE RUDE REMARKS and COMMENTS ABOUT TYRA's show NEED TO KEEP THEM TO THEIR SELF. ALTHOUGH, I KNOW TYRA JUST BRUSHES HER SHOULDER OFF! NOTHING CAN BRING MY GIRL TYRA DOWN!
Your girl Shannon from VA.

Hi Tyra!
I want to first say that I think your show is so wonderful! It's nice to see such a beautiful woman not afraid to act silly or make "ugly" faces. My question is about cellulite. I have very bad cellulite and I am only 25. I won't wear shorts or skirts or even light colored pants. I hate looking at myself in the mirror and feel like I look deformed because of it. It is a real hinderance in my life and I just wanted some advice on what I can do (besides skim care creams that don't work for me). I am interested in some procedures that I've heard of called Vela Smooth and Mesotherapy. Do you have any advice on these treatments or know if they work? I am so afraid of spending lots of money and getting no results. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Angel.

Hey Tyra,
I am young 22 female with dark spots on my face and dark circles under my eyes. I am spanish, making my skin somewhat dark. I just don't know how to get rid of them. I have tried bleaching creams, but they don't seem to work. I was thinking about doing some sort of laser surgery, but I have no idea where to start. What should I do?????

about the remedy for rough hands, my mom also has extremely rough hands and she has a temporary treatment for them: soak them in hot water for about 20 minutes. don't forget to add moisturizing gels/bath gels to the water. your hands come out all nice and soft but it's only a temporary thing. let's say you should do an hour before you have a date :)
Posted by: yvette | September 21, 2006 07:33 AM
OK so i read about the problems you've had with rough hands. My suggestion is try Corn Huskers. You can buy it at pretty much any store. I know Walgreens carries it. You should try it its about 4 bucks and it really helps.

I thought that I should just say everybody is beautiful, no matter how bad it is. Trust me, I convinced my mom to take me to the dermatoligist (Spelling?) and he looked at me as if I had lost my mind. He goes what's the matter? I said My acne..duh. (Well, I didn't say duh. LoL) Just shows that even if you're concentreated on it, not everyone else is. =]

Hi Tyra,
I tape your show EVERYDAY and love it. You have wonderful advice and I admire you alot. I have very sensitive skin and it breaks out with all kind of make up. Is there a drug store brand you recomend that will also stay on everyday?
Thanks for your time, Lisa
p.s. I just wanted to let you know also that I'm not sure what happened with the vasaline thing but you kinda OVER REACTED. I love your show but that almost turned me away.
Posted by: Lisa | September 20, 2006 12:21 PM
Tyra,
I want to start by saying you are MARVELOUS!!!! Anyway, i just read about the ash...I used to work at a drug store where everyone was really friendly and hugging and shaking hands. There was this one guy with really dry crackly hands, I recomended a product called miracle hands and a couple of weeks later the flakes and hangy skin was gone! It's cheap too, only $10. It's worth a shot.
Much Love,
Lisa

Dear Tyra,
I love all your shows and how your a natural comedian. You always make me laugh you are so cute. I enjoyed your show on skins but you didn't cover under arms. After I gave birth my under arms got darker and I've never been able to get them back to how they were. I was hoping you could do a show about pregnancy and how it will affect your body. Also, on how to go back to before pregnancy.
Posted by: Maria | September 18, 2006 02:03 PM
i see alot of people asking where they get the vasaline, and what kind it is and how they cant afford it..
here is some info on it..
its regular vasaline you can buy at the drugstore, the kind she gave out during the show was a special kind covered in crystals.. you cant buy that in the store.. and anyone can buy vasaline it's less than $5 at the drugstore.

I do but not like i did before I had babies. I love watching your show because you give me good hints and they are always affordable. Thanks love your show

Hi Tyra,
I really enjoy your show. I enjoyed the show about skin yesterday. I have been dealing with acne problems for close to 10 years just like the guest that you had on the show. So, I know how she feels. I have tried so many products to see if they work, but they don't. Do you have any suggestions? Does the dermatolagist that you had on the show have any products that I could use? Please email me back with your suggestions. I will truly appreciate it.

Hi Tyra:
I had dry skin from the age of 12. My mother bought me many products for moisturizing my face and body, it really on masked the problem (controlled it). I never had acne until I turned 30. So I got onto the health wagon and started drinking only water, I stopped drinking juice as I felt I needed the real thing. Needless to say my dry skin went away (the flaky white skin) My face went from dry to normal/combination. When I was 40 or 41 I stopped moisturizing my face, due to my acne. I still have acne not much though or often and only on my chin. I am now 43. I still look young however, someday's I feel I look my age, I have acne scars from picking. My cleansing product I started using last year was nutrogena black head remover cleanser and toner, for the morning it's fast and it really worked for me. I use the gently cleanser and makeup remover all in one at night with the black head toner, (by the way I did not have many blackheads more white and deep acne. I recommend when you use an exfoilator on your face (product with beads in it) you should cleanse very gently as to not harm the skin and use it only morning or night or every second day. It really worked for me and I am of mixed race (asian/french) I only put spf on my forehead and top of my nose now. Still nervous that I could break out if I put it elsewhere. As far as trying to stop the little bumps or ingrown hairs. I recommend a small scubbie. Gently exfoliate the bikini area and any others everyday in the shower. The hair seems to grow in easier. Also laser hair remover works wonders. I say to all just try three appointments say for your underarms or face and see the difference you will be amazed. Hair does work best if dark like mine, however there are a lot of new machines out there for light. If you have coarse dark hair go for it, when some hairs grow back they are very fine and almost unnoticeable. Then you can just pluck them bleach or go back for your last 3 visits of laser. They recommend 6 visit's but that can cost a lot at one time. I got benefits from 3 visits. The machine Lite sheer is suppose to be good for all hair types.
You go girl

Hi Tyra,
I really enjoy your show, from your helpful tips, humor and just being REAL. I really appreciate what you do and how you help and inspire women of all ages. I must say, I briefly read through some of these comments that were posted. There was one comment that I disagreed on, about vaseline. This person said that it was a few steps away from car oil. Let me just say car oil or not my great grandmother uses vaseline on her skin and she 99years old YES I said 99years old. She looks great!!! Beautiful skin, face arms legs. Vaseline was discovered in 1859 it's been been used by humans for approx.150yrs. It's one of the best healing agents in the market today. You go girl! You know what your talking about! LOL, Darlene

Tyra,
I wanted to know how I could get in touch with Dr. Shamban. I think that is something I would consider doing for my acne, especially after having suffered from it for over 10 years and having tried everything I could think of to treat it.
Posted by: Kris | September 15, 2006 06:01 AM
I think that the comment by Jyra Malidom was completely ridiculous! Don't listen to her. We love how open and real you are about your face and body. It's let's us know that you have the same problems all women have. DON'T CHANGE A THING.
Posted by: Soonita | September 15, 2006 03:33 AM
I agree with the gal who posted a comment that you over did it with the vasaline thing today. It was kinda unusual to see you act so weird. But anyway, you are entitled to be weird on occasion I suppose. You are a beautiful woman. But why so much makeup? You really have a beauty that doesn't require that much makeup. The fake eyelashes, too much foundation and tons of blush..Do you think you really need all that?
I think you would be more beautiful with less.

Hello Tyra,
I am so glad that young people today have a positive role model like yourself. You really have some good information, and insight to life, and I appreciate you, but your beauty secret about vaseline disturbs me. You are such a beautiful young woman, and I wonder if you realize that vaseline is a product made from crude oil. There are so many other wonderful natural products that would be so much better for you. Vaseline is only a few steps away from being the oil you add to your automobile. At least research this. I am thinking of your future.

I want to say HOW MUCH I enjoy your shows! I am either watching or tivoing you show and I really love how you combine all you skin treatments, hair, makeup, clothes and everything that can be used for every race and age, etc. I am 15 years older than you, and am a blonde, blue eyed woman, and I get SO MUCH information from your shows. Thank you so much! I was watching on Sept. 14, 2006 to find out what your favorite beauty secret was. The tv went off for a few minutes, and so I lost the last part. It seemed when it came back on right before 11:am You were holding up a jar on a chain which you gave to the audience. I just really want to know what it was, and how you use it PLEESE! I am also going to try the Aveeno product you were talking about, and also the Aveda product you were featuring. I just need to find it. Anyway, I am sorry this was so long, but I really wanted you to know how much I appreciate all you so for so many people, and I can tell you really care, and are funny at the same time! I also thing your Mom is great and beutiful. Thanks for listening, and keep up the great work! Sandy

Hey Tyra:
Your show was really crazy today, 14-9-06. I didnt get the names of the products you use to cleanse the face. You didnt mention what you use the vaseline for and where you use it!!
Keep up the good work girl

I forgot to touch base with you on the "dark spots" article. I have freckles, dark spots and sunspots. The best thing in the world for lightening these besides wearing spf and reducing time in the sun, you should try exfoliating. That has lightened mine up drastically. It takes away the damaged skin and those microderm abraison kits you can get through Beauticontrol or Avon work wonders. I've seen elderly people use one of those kits on sunspots on the back of their hands and see awesome results after the first time. For those ladies out there that have dark freckles or sunspots, give it a try for a couple of weeks/months, but only do it a few times a week so you won't make your skin sore. You won't be dissapointed.

Posted by: Maridalia | September 14, 2006 08:47 PM
Thanks so much for showing Vasaline as your favorite moisturizing cream. I have used it in the past (dry skin), but stopped using it when I gave into the ridcule from my peers. I used to get the dirtiest looks of disgust when other women would find out that I put it on my face. Now, I can go back to using it with pride, and say "Tyra uses it and so can I". :o) By the way, where can I get one of those swarovski decorated vasoline jars? They are so cute!!! Also, don't forget to moisturize your neck and chest. I'm 25 and my neck already looks older than my face.
Thanks again! Love ya like a sista!

I think you should do a show on body and skin improvement for the baby boomer . I am 61 years old and my husband left me after 34 years . I want to improve my looks so I will have more self esteem . It would help me start my life over . This is a problem that is hitting a lot of women that have had long time marriages. It is a lot harder to start over at this age .

Tyra- I saw you episode on the importance of taking care of your skin. You also demonstrated your nightly face cleaning routine. I was wondering what products you used on your face, but can't find them listed on your site.

Well... I am fourteen years old and what's my big secret??? My stretch marks!!! My mother always badgers me about it, and saying it's because I've gained weight, but I've been going to the gym and eating right. Sure, I am overweight, but that doesn't stop me from loving myself. I just dont like the fact that I have stretch marks. The locations I have it is on my thighs. That's where EVERYTHING goes! I also have some on my breasts, and my hips (sort of on my tummy but not really). It drives me crazy and makes me EXTREMELY bikini conscious. I cannot wear a two piece without feeling like i have to cover up. I hate that feeling! Well Tyra,I will be sticking to your advice. I love you!!!!!!!!!

I am an Estetician and an Instructor of Esthetics. I would very much like a copy of today's show on skin care to use a tool in my classes. How can I get one?

Tyra,
I just got done watching your show about skin. And I loved it! But what was it that you used to wash and moistureiz your face? I know the one was the aveeno bar, but I didnt here the other names. I was trying to listen and get my dogs ready to go out side all at the same time!

Hello Tyra.
The first thing I want to say is that I really enjoy watching your show. I was just reading some of these treatments for skin issues and I must say that i've tried everything from store products to prescription products. I have been suffering from bad acne for as long as I can remember. Now that i'm 23 it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I have it on my face, shoulders, and back. Another thing that I have are extremely dark circles under my eyes. Nothing seems to help with that either. I've had low self-esteem pretty much all my life. I've gone from being talked about constantly throughout school to having people approach me asking me what's wrong with my face. What people don't understand is that i've tried everything and it hurts me until this day to have people ask me about my problem. I'm to the point now where I want to have laser surgery and just get it all over with because I hate to even look at myself everyday. Tyra, if there is anything you can say to me that you think will help me out with my situation please let me know. Thanks.
