MESSAGE FROM TYRA: What's Up with the Vaseline?
Hi Everybody,
I had a ball giving away that bejeweled VASELINE on the show! I really have used it since I was a little girl, and my mom is addicted to it too. I hope you all got my joke when I was acting all crazy. I was acting all high energy and super excited about the VASELINE giveaway because I was spoofing the time Oprah gave away cars on her show a few years ago. In fact, I actually studied that Oprah episode and copied her body movements and phrases she used, exactly like she did them. But a spoof wouldn't be a spoof without a little (or a lot) of exaggeration, so I had to be over the top with it. If you noticed, we put my VASELINE jar on a key chain to push the Oprah car spoof up one extra notch. It was soooooo much fun. I made sure my office called Oprah's office to make sure they knew it was all in fun. I love Oprah, and she has a great sense of humor and I wanted to make sure she knew the spoof was all in love. She's my idol. I actually pay MAJOR homage to Oprah on “America's Next Top Model” this season. It’s coming up so you have to watch “Top Model” to see what I do. It's a lot of love, mixed with a lil’ bit of spoof, done in that campy way we do things on “Top Model.”
But getting back to the Vaseline. Years ago, Vaseline heard I was a fan of the product, and they sent me a bling bling jar of the product. I loved that hot little jar of Vaseline and wanted to share that with my audience. Each jar I gave to the studio audience was worth $100. I know that's a whole lotta money for some Vaseline, but it's because they were all hand beaded with Swarovski crystals. But underneath all that bling is just a regular jar of Vaseline that you can get at the drugstore or in your own medicine cabinet. I have been reading your messages and a lot of you are concerned that putting Vaseline on your face is not the best thing to do. I have very dry skin, so Vaseline is great for the skin on my face. But if you have oily or acne prone skin, you should probably keep the 'LINE (nickname for Vaseline - pronounced "LEENE") off of your face.
Today, my feet were really ashy, and I put some Vaseline on them before I put my socks on. I just got home. (I went to the movies today to see CRANK. That movie ROCKED. It was sooooo good. It was really violent though and has some sexual stuff that is too strong for the young’uns out there. So I am NOT recommending that people under 18 years old see it! That Jason Stratham - star of the flick - is one sexy dude.) But anyway, I came home from the movies and took my socks off and my feet were ash free. They were glowing!!! Vaseline came to the rescue!!!
I wanna thank all of you for all of your tips on how to get rid of my rough hands. I am trying your advice. I tried the tip today that one of you gave me that involves baking soda. My hands are soft, Soft, SOFT! I'm going to keep trying the tips. Thanks everybody!!!

hey trya i love your show and im always making my man watch it,but i wanted to now what advice do you have on my face.i have big pores.and white spots on my face.i tryed face cleansers,but nothing works.please help me

Hey tyra,how are u doing.I just want 2 say dat I LUV UR SHOW.I watch it everyday.Its fun,funny and interesting.I LUV YA,Tyra.Ur one of my role models.I want 2 be successful just like u when I grow up.Hey tyra I need ur opinion in something,its about my mommy.On wednesday when my mommy got of work she want 2 the store 2 buy some bread,milk and eggs cuz we where out.Dis is a sad part.While my mommy was running 2 get the bus.She fell in the streets, face forword.She hit her head and knees.She was in pain the whole time in the bus.When she got home she told my 2 little bros and I.When she pull up her jeans my mommy saw that she was bleeding.So my bros and I got some alcohol strips and 2 bandage cuz she was bleeding from both knees. At 9pm her head started hurt like crazy.My dad and I started getting worried I was going 2 call 911 but she said she's fine, but I knew in my heart she wasn't fine.My mom and I are very close so when she's feeling bad it hurts me and when I feel bad it hurts her.So I didn't call the 911 and I was wondering if that was a good decision or not.If some bad happens 2 my mommy 4 not calling the 911.I'll regret it 4 the rest of my life,tyra.I LUV MY MOMMY I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO IF I DIDN'T HAVE HER IN MY LIFE.Thanx 4 listening tyra.BY da way I don't have a computer at home so I go 2 the library 2 check my emails.So if I don't email u right away, I'm sorry.I'm 15 years old and I'm in the 10th grade.My B'day is 6/14.Bye tyra luv ya.

Love your show. Love your great attitude. You are really a doll.
BUT...I just wanted to say... You might want to check out what Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly is made of. Its a by-product of crude oil, the same stuff we put in our cars to make them run smoothly. When this type of ingredient is put on the body's largest organ, it is really detrimental to your health! Pregnant women should especially steer clear of this. I'm really, really concerned with the health issues of American women and how many problems can be directly linked to the various issues in the cosmetic industry.
Petroleum is derived from the same roots as Mineral Oil... the NUMBER TWO cause of WRINKLES.... second to only the sun!
I'm just worried for all the people who are using these products every day. Please consider looking into the Vaseline ingredients and what it really does for the skin and your internal organs..... love ya, Tyra.....

Tyra,
I was wondering why you don't have a modeling show with normal people. I understand that the super skinny get the big bucks but there are plenty of "normal" sized and everyday looking women who would look stunning in photos also.
This is not jealousy, I just feel that everyday women would be finally able see their true beauty and excell in life. The things you could do to help them break into the "industry" on different levels would be life changing for them also.
There are also so many options and ideas out there for photoshoots for your next top models. I watch the show to see the new ideas and how they "play out." I think you should do a photo shoot with halloween costumes, that would be really cool and challenging(if the costumes aren't meant to be sexy).
So many interesting ideas so little time.

VASELINE HAS BEEN BANNED FOR SKIN CARE USE IN THE EU DUE TO EVIDENCE IN ITS LINK WITH BREAST CANCER!!!
Just wait till tyra gets diagnosed. Maybe it wil be the rock that finally shakes this country into reality!
You know how many people have filed claims with PROOF that cancer is from Vaseline - just try to fight the oil comanies!

Petrolatum is listed as a probable human carcinogen in the European Union's Dangerous Substances Directive (UNECE 2004), and its use in cosmetics will be banned by September 2004 with the following caveat: “The classification as a carcinogen need not apply if the full refining history is known and it can be shown that the substance from which it is produced is not a carcinogen.” Chemical industry sources have interpreted this clause to mean that petrolatum will continue to be allowed in cosmetics in the EU if it is refined and meets PAH purity standards for food set by FDA (Faust and Casserly 2003). Even this purity standard does not set direct limits on PAH content, but instead relies on a light absorption test as an indirect indicator of contamination.
In the U.S. no requirement for refinement applies for petrolatum in personal care products.

I'm allergic to just about every kind of food, soap, and lotion out there so instead of spending $11 on a bottle of eucerin, which don't get me wrong it works, i go to the $ store and get a big thing of vaseline for a buck!!! Woooo!
