Help for People Who Stutter
Stuttering can be an embarrassing and frustrating problem that can affect your job performance, income level, social life, self-esteem and emotional well being. The cause or causes of stuttering are not yet known. Although stress and emotional factors may increase the degree of stuttering, the emerging scientific view is that stuttering has a physical basis. Research has shown that the speech muscles of stutterers do not perform the correct sequence of movements necessary to produce fluent speech. A new device, known as the Fluency Master, can help control stuttering! The Fluency Master is a miniature, wearable, electronic stuttering control device that looks like a hearing aid. It fits comfortably behind the ear and reduces stuttering by modifying physical factors that affect speech, giving the brain the ability to more effectively control the movement of speech muscles.
When communicating with someone who stutters, remember these three tips:
- Listen: be patient and listen to what the person is saying.
- Talk: when you speak, use your usual speech patterns. Don’t speak more loudly or slowly. Stuttering is not due to a lack of intelligence! Speak as you would with anyone else.
- Don’t Finish Their Sentences: let the person with the speech impairment finish their sentence. They know what they want to say more than you do!

Hi Tyra,
My daughter, Kelsey, is 12 years old. She has been suffering with a stuttering problem since she was about 4 years old -most of her life. We have had her in Speach Therapy several different times for 3 mos to a year each time. This has been unsuccessful to date. This has caused her to withdraw from public activity in school. She has friends and makes straight A's, but this has caused her to become self-concious about herself, over-critical and sometimes feel like she is different from others and lacks the self confience that I feel she will need in these next critical years. I saw your show whe you discussed the Fluncy Master when I was at home after my 2nd child at 37 years old. I was very critial of the show in the beginning thinking that the only people going to benefit from the show's tips were going to be the perfect, tall and beautiful people. I WAS WRONG! Your show is my favorite talk show. I have never benefitted from any other show like I have yours. I have seen many people helped, as I was helped, with everyday struggles in their life because of your generosity and care of others. You are truly an Icon to this generation. We are trying to find out information on this device that helped the 2 people on your show. I have not been able to find out how much it is or how to get it. Can you or someone from your team help us? We would be so grateful. I would love to see my daughter jump to the center crowd and express for others just how beautiful, talented and special she really is. Thank You!

Hi Tyra, I've been stuttering since I was ten yrs. old now I am eighteen. I'm in desperate need of help. I'm a struggling college student who is tired of stuttering. If you can find out the price of the fluency master I'll really appreciate it.
