Fierce for Fall

Michelle Madhok, Online Shopping Expert and founder of www.shefinds.com gives this insight for finding the new fall looks.

  • Black is Back: from sweetly beribboned cocktail dresses to jet jewelry, black is back in a big way for Fall 2005. The newest way to wear black is anything but basic: look for interesting shapes and rich textures (i.e. velvet, ruching) to give it life.

  • Tall Boots: what better way to complement your cropped pants and full skirts than the tall boot? Forget the Ugg boot craze of last year, today's boot is beautiful with either flat heels (if you can pull them off) or a sleek taller heel.

  • Full Skirts: part of what fashion types call "Volume Dressing." Worn with tall boots and something sleek on top (a shrug, fitted jacket or slim white shirt) they are surprisingly flattering and forgiving (after all, full skirts cover up what are most women's problem areas.)

  • Bags: Forget about dainty little under-the-arm shoulder bags. What looks fresh now is an oversized hobo in leather, suede or metallic. Bulga, Kooba and Botkier are the hottest brands. Hobo and classic frame bags with brass hardware or romantic rosettes are Fall’s “It Bags.” Also popular are bags with studs or stones.

  • Embellished Jeans and Corduroy: Stand out from the crowd with super-distressed denim from your favorite premium brands. Or go with crystal-encrusted jeans or even embroidered and studded styles. Everyone is still wearing jeans and this year highly distressed and embellished jeans are hot! Denim-friendly fitted blazers in corduroy are a must. Keep everything else (tops, shoes, accessories) to a minimum for the freshest look.

  • Military jackets, blazers, and suits are staple for Fall and Winter.

  • Fur and Feather Trims: Tap your inner diva and break out a bit of fur or feather around the neckline or as an embellishment to call attention to your beautiful face. Don't do fur? Then try one of the many faux fur alternatives.

  • Chrochet and Lace: ALL THE RAGE!

  • Velvet: darkly romantic pieces like a velvet jacket.

  • Jewelry: Oversized pendants sparkle in a variety of hues and yellow gold jewelry is hot, especially bracelets. Double wrapped layered necklaces, worn with one strand hugging the neck and the other hanging long, are picking up steam. Celebrities started this trend last season and it is stronger than ever for Fall.

Dear Tyra

On August 28,2007 my best friend Jennifer and I went to see one of your new shows in New York. We were so excited. We only got 3 hours of sleep. We stayed up talking and wondering what the show would be about, what you would wear and even what your hair would look like. We figured what ever you wore and what ever the topic was we knew it would be fierce. Jennifer and I look up to u so much you are such a beautiful and caring person. That is why we were deeply sadened when we were told could not enter because ofJennifers spagetti strap shirt. We spent 2 hours getting ready, doing our hair and make up and if you only knew Jennifer you would know she doesn't usually dress up or wear make up. We were so upset, we just wanted to enjoy the show just like everyone else. I thought to myself why was my best friend turned away when there were other women there wearing jeans, hulter tops and stapless shirts. It became clear that Jennifer had several tatoos that were very visiable. It seemed like she was targeted because of her tatoos. She said this was the first time in her life was ashamed of her tatoos and she felt ugly. As her friend it hurt to hear that. I feel that even if she wasn't dressed appropriatly he could have been a little nicer. If it were my job to make sure everyone was dressed accordingly I would have asked her if she had an extra shirt and if she didn't I would have asked her if she would mind if we gave her one, or even a sweater. It just seemed like he wasn't sincere at all. We honestly just wanted to see you and the show and have a good time, I even called out of work to come to the show. It just seemed like the whole day was wasted and we dressed up for nothing. I just want a second chance to see you but to my best friend Jennifer I know it would mean so much more. Thank you so much for your time Tyra and we hope to hear from you soon.
You fan
Andrea.G
